CNET: Hotmail to get ActiveSync support on Monday

General

According to a report filed by CNET, Microsoft’s free email service — Hotmail — will get Exchange ActiveSync support beginning on Monday. The site quotes Microsoft’s director of product management for the Windows Live, Dharmesh Mehta, as the source of the information. There isn’t much else to say about it, if you have a desktop client or mobile device that supports the ActiveSync protocol you’ll have access to push email, contacts, and calendar appointments in approximately four days. Any Hotmail users out there excited?

. The circle is now complete. The live service has been great for a while now, but true exchange and calendar sync have been sorely missing. Maybe. Now people will how much better. windows live services are than the Google services.

i quite like that hotmail is integrated with everything i use e.g. msn messenger, outlook, and now facebook with the new windows live beta 4. very swish..

still want to be able to access my hotmail folders on third party platforms and software. its a pain that i can only get my inbox on my iphone and not my 10 other hotmail folders…

Since Gmail’s launch, how many times have their servers crashed ? How many times was Gmail unavailable ?

In years with Hotmail, not once has it told me i couldn’t access my emails.

    That’s life-changing.

This took how many years to do? Even Gmail has been using Activesync for quite some time now. I always thought it odd that MS’ own Hotmail service wouldn’t synch up with their own Activesync product.

Ah well, now that winmo is irrelevant, is this too little too late? I’m glad they finally did it, but outside of a few users here and there (which I’m sure will be very happy), does this really matter to a great extent?
