HTC Desire spotted in Telus' inventory, pricing uncovered in webpage source code

Rumor

desire-android-telus-htc

Telus announced the HTC Desire earlier this week and teased its Canadian customers by providing all the details on this hot Android handset except the launch date and pricing. Thankfully, some sleuthing by various sources has uncovered both inventory and potentially pricing information that point to an imminent launch of this handset. Uncovered in the source code of the Telus’ landing page for the HTC Desire is pricing information that suggests the Desire may debut at $499.95 for a one year agreement, $399.95 for a two year agreement, and $299.95 for a three year agreement. Don’t gasp at the prices and shun the phone as these figures may be placeholders and the actual prices may be lower at launch. Also indicative of an imminent launch is the appearance of the Desire in Telus’ internal inventory system. Internally, the pricing is set to the default $999.99 and no launch date is visible; but the Desire’s appearance in this database is a good sign. In general, most handsets launch shortly after they hit which makes that rumored August launch date look plausible.

This phone should go to T-mobile!!!

      Telus has AT&T bands.

it will be on at&t eventually… probably the next 2-3 months

Is this phone better than the Nexus One?

    • Artbungler

@SVELTE Slightly more ram, worse screen. It’s a trade off I guess

      • John

The screen is identical. The only difference between this and the Nexus One is the ram and the casing.

Actually, Telus’ version of the Desire has the Sony Super LCD screen whereas the Nexus one has AMOLED touchscreen, likely due to the shortage of AMOLED screens in the world.

Actually, it’s because HTC has completely ditched Samsung to supply their displays.
I read up on it, they had some sort of falling out OR they’re competitors and Samsung didn’t want HTC cutting into their own Android line.

Especially with the Galaxy S coming around the same time as the Desire on Bell.

Let’s hope that pricing is wrong. At $299.00 on a 3 year contract it is over priced. Especially when you consider the Legend can be bought from Virgin for $349.00 without a contract! Yes I realize that the Desire is a much higher caliber phone.I think its sweet spot is, if it lists at $299.00 with a 3yr, and a $100 launch discount, $199.00

There is no way in heck that it’s going to cost 300$ on a three year contract. The Motorola Milestone is $549 on a one year and only $149 on a 3 year

  • Mr.Bill

    $500, on month to month
    $200 on a three year.

I must say you north american /canadian folks get a crap deal on your phone contracts. I got my HTC desire bout 6 weeks ago. For £30 a month I get 600 mns unlimited texts and unlimited net. The net has a 500mb fair usage thing on it which is not great, but still having to pay a couple of hundred and still have a 2 year contract??? ouch. And thats on a 2 year contract.

    • ambientmf

It’s gonna suck even more if it’s $300 on a 3yr contract. Telus may not even offer anything lower than a 3yr contract, as Bell does that with the HTC Legend ($80 on 3yr, $400 no contract).

I’m REALLY hoping this phone if around the $500 mark no contract. I’d love to hold out on getting an HTC Legend for the better-spec’d Desire.
