Samsung Reality becomes real, hits Verizon on April 22nd

Exclusive

One of our trusty Verizon Wireless sources has let us know that Verizon will be launching the Samsung Reality on April 22nd. It’s definitely not a smartphone, but the Reality will pack enough punch to get most people happily through the day with 3″ touchscreen, horizontal QWERTY slider, 3.2 megapixel camera, VZ Navigator, V CAST, visual voicemail, 3.5mm headphone jack and one-touch access to your favorite social networking sites. We’ve yet to establish what the Reality will go for, but we can’t imagine it setting you back more than a Benjamin. Just make sure you budget north of $9.99 per month for a data plan, okay?

Having read the manual for the Incredible, it is the ONLY choice ….

    • justme

or its a combo of 2 phones that AT&T has had for almost a year( the keyboard is from the Impression and the screen is from the Mythic)… once again a handset failure from VZW

      • skyy_flyer

I’m confused… is this phone from Samsung or Verizon? I mean with a name like “SAMSUNG Reality” I’d think that this phone was from Samsung. How this is a failure for VZW I’m confused on. I don’t think any company can have too many phone selections. Isn’t variety good? Well, except for ATT where the iphone is the only phone they sell.

  • StevenGlansburg

Another big hit from verizon…. LOL

    • tome

yes! it is….i am also waiting for the Incredible, but maybe the Reality is good!

      • Blackice

Hide that manual, Steven Glandsburg says the phone does not exist.

    • MotoRoi

Im sure they will sell just fine Steven, a good phone for the average user. Not every phone is built for you, millions of others are just fine with this. and yes, millions of others will like the full keypad, even tho you have said many time people dont need them. Its not all about you steven.

  • Sonya

The mandatory data plan is ridiculous.

    • MotoRoi

That I will agree with. I buy phones from secondary sources. Im on gsm and just put in my sim without a data plan, works just fine and nobody has ever said a word..

  • alias

reality is that it’s not an iPhone…
will big red ever get a CDMA version??

    • skyy_flyer

I don’t think this was aimed at being anywhere near the teir of a iphone so right off the bat that logic is rather flawed. Get your head out of Apples a$$. I’d rather have a Incredible than a iphone as who wants to pay a premium for years old technology soley so you can have a phone with a apple logo on it? Oh but iphone 4.0 will have multitasking! Just like the last one gave it video… yeah groundbreaking device it is.

    • MotoRoi

Reality is the iphone is 1/4 of the u.s. market, so 3/4 of the people dont want them, or dont want to go to at&t for one. So should they quit making phones for 3/4 of the market? or should they stay in business and make phones for all customers and their needs and wants?

    • MotoRoi

Reality is, its not supossed to be. while smart phones sales are increasing. half the market doesnt want one or need one. So should they stop making phones for the other 50% that would be very happy with this or any other mid feature phone? You like apple, I like android and windows. But my daughter would like this phone, and my son, and my aunt etc etc. everytime an average phones is launched people say (its not an Iphone) No its not, and if there wasnt a big market for this, they wouldnt make it..

      • MotoRoi

Sorry for the double post, my at&t air card is freezing. .

  • tino72

To be honest is anyone impressed with anything from Samsung anymore??

  • V For Ve

LG and Samsing are taking beating. Heck, even Motorola is getting more attention. HTC is the king these days.

  • V For Ve

Verizon internal email says, that one of the 6 phones it is launching will be next Monday. I think they will start with low end phones and work their way up to HTC Incredible by April 29th.

  • onlyever

@Ve For Ve Verizon is either getting the Incredible on the 25th or 22nd. BEST BUY is getting the Incredible on the 29th.

    • Frogford Ryder

NNNNNNOooooooooooooooo … I was hoping that the Incredible would be first out of the gate (on Monday).

    Why don’t VZW

  • alias

    @skyy

maybe so but fact remains.. its nothing compared to an apple branded product! My head is with the company that makes a product great for everyone and makes it work everytime.

    • Steve

      @ alias

      Obvious troll is obvious.

    • Elway7

Its a midrange phone for the masses. Thats what most people buy (feature phones) also if apple works everytime, why are they still trying to get rid of so many refurbs for 3g and 3gs? Refurbs indicate problems.

  • Mrwirez

Dumb-Dumb phones.. Just enough to get get your bill through the roof yet not enough to really do anything cool.. VZ Nav and V-cast = Fail. I was hoping these Verizon packages went the way of the Dodo Bird.. This is a High School girls phone.

Disclaimer.. I own 2 Verizon phones.

Just throwing this out there VZ NAv is def not fail, I use that several times a week and it always works flawlessly for me. I prefer it over a stand-alone gps seeing as how since it gets its feeds online it is always up-to-date with the latest maps and road changes. I use it on my Tour. Granted if you get a Droid or any of the upcoming android phones you get essentially the same thing for free for Google, but until my Blackberry contract runs up its the next best option.

  • SKINNI

NOT BAD FOR A “REGULAR” PHONE. I DONT SEE THE BIG DEAL HERE. EVERY PHONE ISNT GOING TO BE A SMART PHONE JUST LIKE EVERY SMART PHONE ISNT GOING TO BE A FLAGSHIP SMARTPHONE. I DONT CARE TO PAY A $30 DATA PLAN FOR MY DAUGHTERS PHONE SO ILL STICK WITH THE SMALL $9.99 ADDITIONAL LINE FEE. ALSO, EVERYONE DOESNT NEED A PHONE THAT OPENS THE GARAGE DOOR, TELL THE FUTURE, PLAY MOVIES, IMPROVE THUMB MUSCLES, & BEAT U OFF. I NEED MY PHONE TO DO ALL OF THAT BUT IM JUST SAYING NOT EVERYONE DOES LOL

    • Mrwirez

Ok.. Now I just feel bad.. Point taken..

      • Blackice

@Mrwirez, You look like Ozzy, The ozz man rules… Dumb question, how do you get a pic up every post.. ive tried everything I know.

      • SKINNI

LOL THANKS. & FOR THE RECORD I OWN A DROID BUT WILL PROBABLY GET THE INCREDIBLE THE DAY IT DROPS BUT MY DAUGHTER WILL PROBABLY BE GETTING THIS “MIDDLE SCHOOL” GIRL PHONE FOR HER B DAY LOL

  • Elway7

I agree with some of your statements, But turn off the caps and stop yelling.

    • SKINNI

SORRY DIDNT MEAN TO HURT UR EARS

  • tome

well done verizonwireless! it hits me that the increable may come out later than Samsung Reality. first look at the phone, it’s my ideals!

    3.2 megapixel cam…pfff

    • Blackice

Dont say that to an iphone user, I was told today by one it was the best camera on the market.

    • justme

3.2 in america isnt bad. but this will have samsungs “photoshop” like built in app

  • ryan

    Htc rules samsungs sucks

  • Andrew

Isn’t this just a slightly different Samsung Rouge? And the Rogue didn’t even come out that long ago. A waste.

    • Blackice

I think it looks more like an impression

      • justme

combo of the impressions keyboard and the mythics screen

  • sven peters

    who really cares?

these manufacturers will continue to pump out renamed pieces of shit every quarter until the consumers rise up and demand something better that won’t fail every 5 seconds

  • Joe Butler

Obviously the Incredible is going to be the best smartphone offered by Verizon but comparing this phone to the Incredible is silly seeing as how this isn’t a smartphone. It’s a feature phone and it is coming out to replace the Rogue. And the Rogue has been out long enough to warrant a possible replacement, the average cell phone only seems to have a shelf-life of 6-9 months before it is replaced with something newer and slightly better.

I will probably buy this phone the first day it’s out! I had the glyde this sounds a lot better. It’s reminds me A LOT of the impression. Maybe not the same screen or service. The only things that would make me buy it is good video quality and camera, and a virtual horizontal Qwerty keyboard.

  • Tracy

Does anyone know if verizon will be offering any new phones that do not need a data package?

  • Beau

I just got this phone 2 days ago and its worth the money and it works great. the touch is ver responsive and never screws up. keyboard is very good. I recommend it.

  • David Schwab

i’ve used this phone and it looks and feels nice. the slider works well and the keyboard is easy to text on. the touch screen works well (for resistive touch screens) but still does not compare to capacitive touch screens (such as the iphone’s screen). the camera takes ok pictures but they definitely could be better. i’d recommend the samsung rogue instead though, because the camera has higher quality pictures, the screen is much much nicer (don’t get me wrong, the reality has a nice screen but its only 240 x 400 resolution tft display while the rogue has an amoled 480 x 800 resolution screen), the rogue has a better spaced out keyboard, and the rogue is cheaper. besides that, they are pretty much the same phone except the physical styling looks a little different although they are pretty much the same size. so if anyone is looking at getting the reality, take my advice and also consider the rogue.
