Sprint’s seven month run as the exclusive carrier of Palm’s webOS handsets has come to an end as the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are now available from Verizon Wireless. Verizon customers interested in the refreshed devices can score the Palm Pre Plus for $149.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and a two year agreement and the Pixi Plus for $99 after a $100 mail in rebate and a two year agreement. Folks that shun a long-term commitment can grab the Pre Plus for $219.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and a one year agreement or $599 for full retail. The Pixi Plus comes in slightly lower with a price tag of $169.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and a one year agreement or $399 for full retail. Anyone going to take the plunge?

The time is now for someone to buy Palm and take the truly innovative WebOS to the next level by matching it to hardware that can take advantage of it….

Palm will get bought when the stock price falls to something less speculative – right now it would cost something like $4-5 BILLION to buy Palm (240 million shares plus debt payoff plus premium). Very few beta operating systems are worth that price (“beta” because even fanboys keep on saying “Wait for version X!” for all future Xs…).

I donjt see why people are bashing the pre so much its actually really nice and I’m trading my droid for it, it has a very nice messaging system and much better multitasking. I

You are trading your Droid for the Pre? You either haven’t used the Pre or you are smoking something. The Pre is far inferior to the Droid in terms of hardware specs, build quality, OS stability, and app catalog, just to name a few.

You are going to regret giving up your Droid. I have used both devices and the Droid wins hands down.

Hardware specs? The Pre, iPhone 3G S, and the Droid have the same processor. The Droid’s interface is clunky and the Pre multi-tasks better. Good choice getting the Pre Plus. The ability to run 50 apps at one time (vs 20 on the standard Pre) and double the storage has some of us Sprint users jealous. We pay a whole lot less and get more free feature with our plan, though.

oopsdidnt mean to finish posting, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the people saying having only 1 cell phone is for old people. I’m 18 and have 1 phone because quite frankly its all I need, and for the guy complaning about bpeople in wheelchairs not bitching, what are you even talking about god forbid people say they don’t like something that means they should be handicapped?

I think its time At&t changes there commercials because I think Verizon has the biggest selection of most popular smartphones now.

My significant other has had a Pre on Sprint for about 4 months. Compared to the beta versions of Blackberry software that I have had to put up with, and the non-existent reception of the “other” phone, and the bricks that pass for Nokia’s, the Pre is by far the superior device, in my opinion.

Folks that complain about the OS obviously haven’t tried it. It’s rock solid, has not yet crashed or frozen.

It does however need more apps, and it also needs a better build – the case is cracking along the USB port.

Hopefully Verizon will move the volumes to bring the developers aboard.

    Verizon is a tool.

  • j

I think your a tool john! Keep sticking with the most dropped calls network in AT&T and your iphone, until it too goes to Verizon in the next year after LTE is done! Oh and just so you don’t think I’m biased toward big red… I have Sprint, well till my contract is up anyhow.

    • john

I am with T-mobile. love their customer service.

      • BDW

        I’m sorry.

    • BDW

Yea, At&t blows. I am hoping the iPhone does come to Big Red soon because I am sick of the drop calls, and network problems. No network can even compare to Verizon. Why? Cause not only do they rank #1 in customer service but they have the best network(voice and data) and the best selection of smartphones.

If Verizon had this phone last July, I would have been all over it. I would have been a gleeful user.

But, timing is everything and we are now living the age of Verizon and Android. It is hard to look back.

Sorry, Palm, you missed the window of opportunity. I hope that Sprint paid you enough for the exclusive.

I’d like to have the Pre Plus as a secondary device to my Droid. (Want to see if people are correct in saying that the WebOS is better, but less hyped, than Android). I don’t want to buy it unlocked, but I hear that I can upgrade to a family plan and add a line of service for $10 a month, which would let me buy the phone for the discounted price.

I’m not familiar with these plans. Would the two phones share minutes and other account features or would I have to have a separate data plan and text message plan for the Pre? How much would doing this really cost per month?

well i just exhcanged my moto droid today for the palm pre plus.I love the OS a lot its brilliant and certainly makes apples iphone OS look very dull.Palm will have a good year this year.the build quality is ok but could do with some updates but its a perfectly stable phone and even though i love the droid. The OS needs more work it was a tough trade but i do love what palm has created.Lets see what apple comes out with this week….

ps: for all the haters i was once a iphone 3GS user on AT&T and had to leave them and the IPHONE i just got bored and fed up with the terrible network.Im on verizon and love the network its fast and solid and i get reception everywhere.

Now guys lets all have a nice day on wed to see what the BIG APPLE has to offer our tech head’s :-)

Palm OS is nice and multitasking is what I desire (hence I have a berry) but the screen is too small and the app selection blows. I’ll probably get the Storm2 when my time comes for an upgrade. If the iPhone comes to verizon and they allow multitasking other than email and browser I will have to think very hard about getting one…

  • Jeff

the nerwork quality depends on where you are Here in Western Arkansas AT is good and Sprint reception is pretty bad and vzn is prety god because this was an alltel area and their service was good. I have personal reasaons for never being on VZN and I wont ever be on sprint bc of the reception issues.

    • ALH

Verizon and Sprint share their towers. Just an FYI from a Sprint employee.

  • Diabl0

The “free” phone also needs to be on a 2-year renewal.”

This is how all of Verizon’s buy-1-get-1-free deals work. It’s incentive to get another $39.99/month ($9.99/voice and $29.99/data) out of you by making your individual plan into a family plan. More of the specs and details: http://bit.ly/palm-pre-plus-pixi-plus-details

But thanks to bestbuy, it seems where going to have her sooner.

I am not a fan of Palm one phones, but i just want
to say that the second phone shown in he picture
is really cool and have a great design, it has a
    qwerty keyboard.

  • Jose C

I temporarily had BOTH the Pre and the Pixi while on Sprint and both were returned. The Pre has horrible built quality and feels cheap all around. Its slider feels like any minute it will break off. The QWERTY keyboard is just too cramped to type on. I traded the Pre for the Pixi and, built-wise, the Pixi is far superior to the Pre. Yes its smaller but it felt solid and had a small but excellent shaped keyboard BUT I had to exchange two Pixi’s – the first would shut itself off randomly then the second would freeze up regularly and would not allow me to download apps – I found out on-line that those freezes/no app. downloads were due to Palm’s most recent OS update glitch WTF!!!! So all of them went back and now I have a Blackberry. The positives for Palm is the excellent WebOS – that when working correctly – is excellent and very addicting to use. Sorry guys, I can’t recommend these phones at all!
