Images of Microsoft’s mass-market Turtle and Pure handsets leak out

Rumor

Microsoft must be shitting bricks by now, because Gizmodo clearly has befriended someone very high up within the company. Yesterday they brought us information about the Courier tablet and now they’ve (temporarily) moved on to two handsets that represent the fruits of labor of Microsoft’s project Pink. If the Turtle and Pure don’t scream high end to you, good job; you’re amongst the most observant people on this planet. You see, Pink is all about assisting Microsoft establish a strangle hold on the very same market that Danger (a recent Microsoft acquisition) is going after with its Sidekick. And by that we mean pretty much everyone who wants a phone that can do more than make calls, has quite a lot of social media integration but doesn’t carry the costs or “un-hip” stigma that many smartphones possess. Having said that, it really isn’t clear what Microsoft is going to put into Pink handsets, but all rumors seem to point to them snuggling up fairly close to the Zune family of products. Hit the jump for a few more pics.

Nah, some of us use Windows over Mac because we don’t want to pay a premium, and be limited to yesterday’s hardware (especially vid cards). Plus we like the customization options.

Mac is OK. But X86 computing surpassed it years ago for speed – that’s why Apple went to Intel X86 based processors. The Mac is just a PC with a different OS, and no options for top of the line, bleeding edge hardware.

These mock ups look just like the Motorola handsets that were released on AT&T and the soon to be released CLIQ on T-Mobile. The only difference being the Qwerty layout. Way to be original Microsoft.

Wow Cliff… really… and those don’t look anything like every other HTC phone from the last 3 to 5 years, or Eten… or that Asus phone. I give you the stupidest comment of the day award. Enjoy it.

Anyway, before I got distracted by some asinine bullshit, my comment was that by making a low-to-mid range phone, MS can go for that segment of people who don’t pay for premium handsets.
Apple fanboys should acknowledge what that means rather than act like a bunch of bitches about stupid crap like form factor: It means iPhone has such a stranglehold on the smartphone market, MS (and Google/Android for that matter) knew the only way to get hardware of their own out was to go w/ mid-range phones rather than taking on the iphone directly.
Good job Apple; good idea MS.

Guys, my friend just confirmed that these are not the phones from Microsoft!

He works in the mobile division. These are fakes.

All he said was wait and you will be surprised. He saw these mockups and laughed.

    “I wish I had Steve’s taste.” – Bill Gates

Heh. Even with that, there’s no way Microsoft would release such Motorola-like generic drek.

Zune HD is pretty sweet, i’m really starting to like the UI a lot and have even gotten used to not having physical volume controls. That said, I really think MS would be stupid not to use that hardware design for a phone. Come to think of it, don’t some of the zune HD specs match up with some of the winmo7 chassis requirments? Hmmmmmmm.

I agree, the first is a Palm Pre?

ooh look its the Zunekick and the Zunekick double douche with sprinkles. looks like early “wonder if tweens will fawn over this” designs, like the flip and its what? hundreds? of variants of development plastics(objectified trailer).probably just renders for proposed designs.likely for the inevitable microsoft LegoZuneKick360dows7mobilenotgonaturnaprofitfor5yearsandwasteabilliondollars super hip/cool/rad brand(lego makes anything cool).

    Bring on the IPhone!

    BEST PHONE OUT THERE!

Why is Microsoft constantly trying to be Apple? They should stick to what they were good at, software. They should be spending the R&D on making Windows better so more people don’t defect to Mac, instead of wasting money in the saturated phone market.

Windows is bad? What are you smoking, and how can I get some?
