T-Mobile myTouch 3G to land in stores on August 5th?

Some keen observation and javascript sleuthing may have uncovered the in-store launch date for T-Mobile’s second Android-powered handset, the myTouch 3G. Announced earlier this week by T-Mobile USA, the myTouch 3G will be available for pre-order on July 8th with an in-store release of the Android handset to follow sometime in “early August”. Now according to some serious sleuthing by the Android and Me blog, it looks like early August can now be clarified to August 5th. An author on the blog claims to have stumbled upon a T-Mobile development server containing a widget that counts down to the handset’s US release date, as indicated by the phrase “myTouch 3G in stores”. The server, according to the source, is owned by “the same media company who developed the official G1 website”. It all adds up, though no URL for the alleged server is provided so until we get some official word, this is all just a rumor. Either way, we have bigger and better things on our minds right now…

    Hey Kelly: You should start IP blocking these 3rd graders who keep cluttering up these messaging boards with nonsense. Unfortunately I fear these guys are really 20+ something and still live with mom.

    Thanks for the launch update BTW. My contract with AT&T is up on one of my lines and I plan on porting over. I’m really intrigued by Android and its possibilities.

    I have a T-Mobile 8900 so I know the network works where I need it to just fine.

    I’m prolly going to switch back to tmobile for this… iPhone is too much a month for what you get service wise.

    I was just at a store last night, and one of the associates must have been a little newer than the other. I asked about how big it was compared to the G-1, which I took back after a week because it was too big to put in your pocket. He looked at the other manager type and asked, “Can I show him?” The manager type said, “No, absolutely not. Not until the release date.”

    Has anyone else had this happen? It seems like T-Mobile kiosks may have units already there. The young one went on to say he really liked how thin it was, that he liked using it, and it was what the G-1 was supposed to be like, in his opinion. He also said they would be out mid July. I mentioned that I’d seen the Pre Order date and the the August delivery, and he said no, mid July.

    Did I have a sneak preview at a mall kiosk? Has anyone else asked T-Mobile and gotten a similar answer?
