T-Mobile 3G coverage maps are live

News

Woot! The 3G roll out took damn long enough and it’s slowly making its way to a city near you, and now you can find out if your city has ample coverage on T-Mobile’s website. There’s a lot going on with T-Mobile these days with the HTC G1 coming out soon, and now 3G is spreading like the plague. All we have to do is cross our fingers and hope that T-Mobile doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for 3G data plans like all the other carriers do. That would certainly tarnish T-Mobile’s reputation for having the most affordable and reasonable voice and data plans.

Thanks, Jeff!

It seems to display 3G coverage in many areas that don’t have 3G and some that have not even been said to receive 3G

Yeah i live in the LA area and it says I would have 3G. Which is odd.

  • Rick

Yeah, same. It says theres 3G in Chicago.

Please note that the areas marked as 3G on the current map will be live on or before mid October. That is why the Los Angeles market shows its covered even though it hasn’t actually been officially lit up. More will be made clear within the coming days.

Also, T-Mobile will expand the current 3G covered areas even more throughout the remainder of the year making each market even more ubiquitous.

Their phone filter now even includes “3G”, even including their first 3G handset, the Samsung t639!

(Sorry for the double comment–accidentally submitted.)

Anyone know if Nokia is going to add t-mo 3G support on their N-series handsets?

Also, are the old data plans compatible? ie, if I move my SIM over to a new phone can I keep my old $20/mo unlimited tethering-ok data plan? ;-)

Someone at hofo says 3g is live in LA as of last night.

  • Glenn

There’s nothing like 3G on a Samsung t639 or Nokia 3555. Yummy. ehhh

This is BS. T-Mobile’s 2G coverage map is not to be believed. I get no coverage in places it says I should get at least two bars. These clowns have no credibility in my mind.

Let’s applaude these people for being 2 years late and also for reporting false coverage areas…that’s T-emporary MOBILE for ya

  • nish (San Diego)

This is soooooooooo long overdue that I’m surprised anyone cares anymore.
Now, when I just went to the “Upgrade Your Phone” part of My T-Mobile, there are no 3G handsets in the lineup to choose from. Ha!

  • Mikey

Am I the only person who doesn’t get the 3G coverage showing up when they hit the “Read” link? I get the same coverage map as last week (just showing signal strength).

  • Matt

There are several 3G phones in the upgrade my phone section.

    Nokia 3555
    Nokia 6263
    Samsung T639
    Samsung T819
    SE TM-506

    @Mikey and rudy:

When you hit the link, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Display” box under the Data Coverage section. Then you’ll see what kind of 3G/EDGE data your area has. :)

Hey mike(philly) and likeabite(lilboyspp’s) yall are f*ckin retarded. This is what the 3G coverage will be by Jan 09. Not what it is currently. Also, ya dumb b*tches, your lil nokia 2610′s aren’t 3G anyway. That would be part of the reason u don’t have signal.Learn to f*ckin read, taintlickahs.

My phone shows E nextby the signal strength bars. Called T-Mobile representative, she said the sim card is out of date. I told her that the 3g shows on the phone when I was in LA. When I got the new sim, it is shown exactly the same as the previous one. However, another sale rep looked it up, she said the 3g is not cover in the area I am living in.
Well, T-Mobile is the largest network in the nation. What’s a good adverstisement huh?
T-Mobile 3g is not in the coverage area in Arkansas and some area around Dallas period.
