Will this upgrade be available for the Palm Treo 750? Already running WM6.0 and it’s much better than WM5.0 but looks like there’s a few added extras on WM6.1 that would be good.

Does anyone know how these updates are typically distributed? By the carrier? The device manufacturer? I have a Sprint Moto Q9 and I believe it runs Windows Mobile Smartphone 6.0. I can’t copy/paste, and don’t have the threaded SMS, which drives me nuts. Would love to get a more current OS with the features outlined by BGR.

After having ervery treo since the 300, I finally gave up. I can’t bring myself to pay RIM for blackberry devices, a BES, and extra money every month for service on top of that.

I got a Moto Q9 from Sprint about a month ago – i like the form factor and love the quality of the voice calls – that’s great. But the UI is abysmal. The lack of touch screen is a large part of it, but it’s totally exacerbated by poor decisions all over the place. The back button is probably the worst of it – completely does something different in every application.

Damn you, Palm, for blowing it so badly. You had the best device on the planet with the most loyal following, and you let everyone kick your butt.

@tmo_nick – It’s not the Shadow UI, that was a custom job for T-Mob only. But the UI above is using the same rendering engine that the Shadow UI uses. It’s similar to the UI demo’d by Samsung last year…

Any OEM can customize the HS, WM 6.1 just adds more support for animation with the introduction of the rendering engine, allowing the GDI API’s to run more smoothly – not sure if I can say the name of the engine as I haven’t seen it mentioned publicly.

Also, please note, if you can get an upgrade for your device to WM 6.1, it doesn’t mean you’ll get the same HS (Home Screen) pictured above, just the std one. The exception to this may be for Moto devices.

Does anyone know if 6.1 will allow one to click on a telephone number in the notes of a contact? This is something I took for granted with the Blackberry. Seems that WM6 can’t do this and it is tough for those of us that have additional phone numbers noted in the notes section.

They only did a few tiny things,
the icons are the same, the way they are layed out
and that stupid blue square around them.

Also, with all these stupid updates,
why they did not get rid of those ugly blue bars.
they make the phone interface look so crappy.

I am so sick of those blue bars.
    Does not matter anyways.
Microsoft can keep their crappy OS v6 …

I just purchased a iPhone. THANK GOD !!!!

I can’t use my iPhone to go to the net with my laptop or desktop like he Q9h does.

but at least I dont have a slow phone, and ugly looking bars and everything else horrifying
    that microsoft gives us.

I am also going Leopard on my OS too.
I am so sick of Microsoft crap.
just saying their name makes me barf…

I am a lead design engineer on the IPHONE 2.0 and would like to share some insight. I can now confirm the rumor that G.P.S will be a part of the new IPHONE. As with all Apple products we have taken it to the next level and you will not find G.P.S like thin in any other device. The new IPHONE will feature thousands of microscopic legs like a centipede, so that it better position its self up your dumb ass. For those of you that don’t know already or have not had the pleasure of testing out a private demo G.P.S stands for Gerbil Positioning Device. I’m sure all of you HOMO’s will love the new IPHONE and its wonderful new G.P.S. CAUTION, always make sure the usb cable is attached when using G.P.S.

there is some more info on the new iphone v2 here
