Google on Tuesday finally took the wraps off of its next-generation smartphone lineup after weeks of unending rumors and leaks. The all new Pixel and Pixel XL mark the start of a fresh new chapter for Google where to company will design and release its own hardware products across a wide range of categories, competing directly with its own Android hardware partners like Samsung and LG. This marks a huge departure from Google’s initial strategy with Android, and we have a feeling this is just the beginning of a major strategic shift that will ripple across the entire industry.

Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones fall squarely into the premium handset category, priced right in line with Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The Pixel and Pixel XL will undoubtedly be two of the most desirable smartphones out there among Android fans when they launch, and they’re available for preorder beginning today on Google’s online store. There, you’ll be able to purchase unlocked units that will work on any GSM network. If you want to buy a phone from a carrier though, Verizon Wireless has the exclusive on both phones here in the US.

Google’s hot new phones will be released on October 20th but in the meantime, Verizon recorded an unboxing video to tide you over. The entire thing was filmed on a Pixel, and it also contains a stop-motion video of sorts that was put together from 1,120 photos shot using the Pixel’s camera.
