Of all the Marvel movies that Marvel Studios isn’t actually producing itself, few are receiving as much buzz as X-Men: Apocalypse. Our post containing the leaked teaser trailers of X-Men and Deadpool from Comic-Con has been one of the most popular on the site, so it’s clear that everyone is excited to see where Fox is taking this franchise next.
Sadly, we’re still nearly a year out from the film’s release, but on Thursday, Entertainment Weekly revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse will be its cover story this week, and the magazine will feature new details of the movie and five exclusive photos from the set.

According to EW, the film opens in the 1980s, 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past, with Professor X, Magneto and Mystique still not on speaking terms. But their silent feud quickly comes to an end, because an ancient Egyptian mutant named Apocalypse rises from his slumber and, disapproving of the direction of the human race, decides to start wreaking havoc.
“It’s a chaotic world of conflict and war and destruction,” director Bryan Singer told EW. “It’s one giant civilization that now requires one giant culling. That’s why [Apocalypse] needs special assistants in this process.”
As you might have guessed, those assistants happen to be some of the familiar villains from the recent X-Men movies. It’s all an elaborate set-up for a mutant vs. mutant war that should trump the disappointing conclusion of X-Men: The Last Stand.
