As more Windows users transition to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s app store is beginning to gain some traction. TechCrunch has shared Microsoft’s latest numbers, which show that the Windows Store delivered 1.7 million daily downloads in October, a 39% increase over the number of apps downloaded daily from the store in June.
Breaking down the October numbers even further, there were about 1.4 million paid app downloads and 49.8 million free app downloads. Although there is no recent data for either Windows Phone apps or Mac OS X apps, TechCrunch found that Microsoft overall still has a long way to go to catch Apple’s App Store, whose estimated 75 million daily downloads dwarf Microsoft’s 1.7 million. But with apps like Vine and Instagram coming to Windows Phone, the company has at least started to close the app gap it has with other platforms.
