Tesla famously doesn’t do any advertising, instead opting to devote every spare dime it has towards R&D and capital expenditures. All the same, with a passionate user base, Tesla, much like Apple, seemingly has an unofficial army of representatives who will be quick to tell you the myriad of reasons why the company and its products are so amazing.

Recently, filmmakers Adam and Nathan Freise, collectively known as the Freise Brothers, put together an unofficial ad for Tesla that, to be honest, would have been better than half the commercials that actually aired during the Super Bowl.

The ad itself, titled “Not A Dream”, is primarily filmed in black and white and features a seemingly futuristic world littered with oil rigs and gas machinery. All the while, the narrator, who we later find out is Nikola Telsa, waxes poetic about the potential of electric energy.

“It is not a dream,” the narrator says at the beginning of the film, “it is a simple feat of scientific electrical engineering.”

Notably, the ad quite obviously bears more than a passing resemblance to Apple’s iconic “1984” Macintosh ad. Whereas Apple’s ad promised to save users from a world dominated by IBM, this unofficial Tesla ad promises to save consumers from a dystopian society shackled by a reliance on oil.

Though the video itself was not sanctioned by Tesla and was a completely independent venture, Elon Musk took to Twitter earlier today to heap praise on the compelling ad.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first compelling and unofficial Tesla ad we’ve seen in recent years. In case you haven’t seen it, this Tesla “Modern Spaceship” commercial from 2014 is pretty great also.

And though not a commercial, the following video from Tesla is also worth highlighting.
