The PlayStation 4 has had a commanding lead over the console market since launch, but as sales figures have dominated the headlines, Microsoft has been quietly updating the Xbox One. Four months later, the additional features of the Xbox One have begun to outpace those of the PlayStation 4, but Sony doesn’t plan on waiting much longer to catch back up.

Scott McCarthy announced on the PlayStation Blog that the next major update for the PS4 will add a video editor and the ability to record gameplay with external HDMI capture devices, two of the most requested missing features.

McCarthy says that along with these enhancements, “there will be plenty in the update to excite everyone.” Sony is also working with Twitch to bring 720p streams and stream archiving to the PlayStation 4, two recent additions that have given Xbox One owners reason to celebrate. The Twitch improvements will be “part of a separate system software update in the future.”

Sony will have more on the updates in the coming weeks.
