At the moment, there aren’t many smartwatches on the market that compete with the Moto 360 when it comes to user interface and design. It’s a well-made product and showpiece for Android Wear, but with the Apple Watch right around the corner, Motorola wants to ensure that the Moto 360 retains its status as the wearable to beat.

In a recent interview with CNET, Motorola COO Rick Osterloh hinted that the popular MotoMaker tool for customizing smartphones might be coming to the Moto 360 in the near future.

“Could be,” said Osterloh when asked about the possibility of MotoMaker’s transition to the smartwatch. “We have no major announcements in this area, but I think your intuition is very good.”

“We consider this to be the power alley of our strategy,” Osterloh continued, referencing customization. “We’re driving toward consumer choice because we think as these become more personal devices, this becomes increasingly important.”

Osterloh went on to say that the Moto 360 performed well over the holiday season, but wouldn’t provide any numbers. It’s no secret that the demand hasn’t begun to match the supply when it comes to the wearable market, but based on critical and consumer reaction, it’s fair to assume that the Moto 360 is outperforming the competition.

As for Osterloh’s concerns about the Apple Watch, he is simply excited that Apple is going to raise the profile of the smartwatch for everyone in the industry.
