In addition to swapping your old hard drive with an SSD and increasing memory, there are other steps that can be taken after upgrading your MacBook to keep it in top shape. Business Insider advises users to upgrade to the latest OS X version available, and reinstall the operating system at least once a year. You can also periodically delete unwanted files from the hard drive in order not to clog it with junk, and use a memory cleaner app to free up RAM as often as possible.

Other neat tricks involve monitoring app process on the Mac with help of Activity Monitor to end tasks that hog up memory. Similarly, limiting the number of apps that run in the background when you boot up can be a useful idea. Finally, you can even block the number of tabs browsers can keep open at the same time with help of some handy extensions.
