A job listing on Apple’s website searching for an AC/DC Power Supply Design Engineer may have let slip a future Apple product line that has been rumored numerous times in the past: an Apple television. Not Apple TV; an actual television set designed and built by Apple. “This is an excellent opportunity to work on the forefront of new power management designs and technologies with the exemplary company consistently bringing innovations in the industry,” Apple’s job listing states. “The position primarily involves high-density offline power supply’s development for Apple’s next generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers, desktop computers, servers, standalone displays and TV.” That’s right, TV. The television set is still at the center of the home entertainment market despite PC makers’ best efforts, and the introduction of 3D technology fizzling at best. TV hardware is practically begging for some innovation and if Apple can manage to wow the world with a novel television product — which it failed to do with Apple TV — the company’s iTunes video business could become just as successful as its music business.
