Ever since the iPhone became a bonafide hit, critics and tech pundits have been predicting that it was only a matter of time before Apple’s iconic smartphone would fall from grace. Whether it was Apple’s staunch refusal to support mobile flash or the company’s admittedly bizarre App Store rejection policies, there has never been a shortage of reasons tech pundits have clung to in order to bolster their claims that some competing smartphone would finally be the “iPhone killer” the world has been waiting for.

Don’t Miss: Apple to release three brand new iPhone models in 2015

Nearly 8 years later, the iPhone is more popular than ever. With the Apple iPhone train still chugging along at breakneck speed, Jason O. Gilbert of Yahoo! Tech thought it was high time to make a list out of all the “iPhone killers” that came and went. Indeed, many of these supposed “iPhone killers” were ultimately put out of their misery by the iPhone itself.

Oh sweet justice.

In any event, the list includes all of the usual suspects, including the Nexus One, the Motorola Droid, the HTC HD2 and many more.

Of particular note are the devices that many people genuinely believed would give the iPhone a run for its money and the devices which never stood a shot, like the BlackBerry Storm or LG Voyager.

In any event, the full list is well worth a read.
