I’ve been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember, and I’m shocked to find out this particular detail about Han Solo and Princess Leia – spoilers obviously follow below.

Remember when Han was afraid that Leia was in love with Luke rather than him? Well, as it turns out, Han had one other big reason to worry that Leia might choose Luke over him: The fact that Leia knew he was married when they fell in love.

As CNET points out, there’s a new Marvel Star Wars comic that reveals more details about Han’s love life… and since the comics are considered canon by Disney and Lucasfilm, it means it’s part of the official Star Wars story.

Apparently, Han Solo was married with one Sana Solo when he met Leia, Star Wars No. 6 reveals. And from the looks of it (see images below), Sana wasn’t really ready to give him up to the Princess. However, this comic edition doesn’t really explain what happened in Han’s past, or how Leia dealt with the surprising news.

The action in this new comic takes place before “The Empire Strikes Back,” therefore before Leia tells Han that she loves him which happens right before he’s frozen in carbonite. In light of this new revelation about Han and Leia’s relationship, that “I love you” moment has suddenly received a whole new potential meaning.
