Smartphone users looking to own a “smart” car that can offer them either Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto features could save a lot of money by not actually buying a new car, and instead investing in a new gadget from Parrot that was just unveiled at CES 2015.
FROM EARLIER: The iPhone 6 might be low-res, but Apple’s highest-resolution device ever is coming soon
The Parrot RNB 6 can support both CarPlay and Android Auto, CNET reports, unlike the Pioneer’s similar gadget, the NEX, that can offer only iOS support.
The RNB 6 is a two-DIN unit that offers users a 7-inch 720p HD display, HDMI support for external video, satellite and FM/AM radio inputs, internal storage, GPS support, and 55 watts per four channel output. The device runs a special version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but can switch to iOS when an iPhone is plugged in.
Pricing details for the RNB 6 are not available just yet, though the device should be a lot more affordable than a new automobile coming with CarPlay and/or Android Auto out of the box. Furthermore, it’s not clear at this time when the RNB 6 will be available in stores.
A video demoing the device’s main features follows below.
