Positioned as a prequel to Breaking Bad, a show with one of the more fervent fan bases you’ll ever encounter, the debut of Better Call Saul last year had a lot to live up to. But thanks to snappy writing, engaging storytelling, and a somewhat slow but measured pacing, the show managed to strike a chord both with critics and viewers.

Just a few weeks ago, the second season of Better Call Saul premiered and took us further along the journey intended to illustrate how the character of Saul Goodman, played so brilliantly by Bob Odenkirk, came into existence. While the first season of the show admittedly moved a bit on the slow side, perhaps a necessity given that any good prequel must be able to stand on its own two feet, the second season has provided a much more accelerated pace as plot lines and character arcs are steadily beginning to crystallize.

For those who happened to catch this week’s episode, both plotlines involving Jimmy (aka future Saul Goodman) and Mike progressed in interesting ways. And for anyone yearning for a little bit of a peek into what the rest of the season has in store, MTV recently sat down with executive producers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould for an extended interview that’s well worth checking out in its entirety.

One of the more interesting topics, though, touched on whether or not we might see the character of Gus, played expertly by Giancarlo Esposito, make a cameo later in the season.

A question to which Gould responded:

This is tricky. I think it’s fair to say you’re going to see some folks from Breaking Bad who come into the story in organic and inevitable ways. But I think it’s going to be a huge surprise when you see who shows up in the next few episodes. Fans of Breaking Bad will be well taken care of by the end of Season 2. With every episode of Saul, we get steps closer to the events of Breaking Bad.

Noably, Giancarlo Esposito coyly alluded to making a cameo on Better Call Saul during an interview this past February.
