We can’t say we didn’t see this one coming, but Netflix certainly took its sweet time to renew one of its best series ever, and probably the best series of the summer across all networks. Stranger Things season 2 is now official, and will be released by Netflix at some point next year.

There’s no firm release date for the new season of Netflix’s hit show just yet, but Variety learned that season 2 will have nine episodes — which is one more than the first season had. Information about the cast and plot aren’t available, but Stranger Things season 2 has been in development for quite some time according to unnamed sources.

Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer will return as writers and executive producers. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also executive produce the show.

The Duffer Brothers already offered some hints at what’s to come in season 2, in case Netflix decided to go forward with it. “We want it to feel like a big movie,” Matt Duffer said at the Television Critics Association press tour. “But there’s a bigger mythology, and there’s a lot of dangling threads at the end. We could explore it if Netflix wanted to continue.”

“It’s about giving enough, so the audience feels satisfied,” Ross Duffer added.

We know that Barb is getting justice, and we know that stars Winona Ryder and Millie Brown have no idea what’s coming in season 2 either. With all that in mind, 2017 really can’t get here soon enough.

UPDATE: A teaser clip for Stranger Things 2 is already on Netflix’s YouTube channel, listing the titles for the upcoming nine episodes.
