Jon Snow isn’t the only Jon that HBO fans are excited to see return to television this year. Speaking with CNN’s Brian Stelter in a Paley Media Council interview this week, HBO CEO Brian Plepler was asked about the chances that Jon Stewart would make his way on to the network before the election in November.

“Yeah, I’m hopeful,” Plepler responded.

Late last year, shortly after ending his seventeen year run on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart signed a four-year production deal with HBO. The first project the network announced involved Stewart working with cloud graphics company OTOY to create short-form video content for the HBO Now streaming service.

We haven’t seen even a hint of what that video content might look like, but Plepler said that improvisation will play an important role in Stewart’s upcoming work:

“It is a perfect example of bringing a remarkable original voice into the house, giving a new opportunity of expression to that original voice and saying, ‘We now have the flexibility to let you paint however you want to,'” Plepler said. “My hunch is it will evolve over time. It will iterate over time.”

Plepler also noted that Stewart has “free reign to do whatever he wants.”

In what has been one of the strangest election years in modern history, both Stewart and Stephen Colbert have been dearly missed by the general public. Although Colbert still has a platform on CBS with The Late Show, Stewart has been all but silent since his departure from The Daily Show.

We can only hope his silence will end before the election season is over.
