Nearly two years after the first season, Ms. Marvel season 2 is still not a done deal, but Marvel Studios is reportedly set to make a decision about the show’s future soon.
In a recent Patreon post, Marvel scooper DanielRPK claimed that Ms. Marvel season 2 is being discussed by Marvel Studios, but the Disney+ TV series has yet to be officially renewed. A final decision about the show’s fate is also said to be coming in the near future.
Ms. Marvel season 2 seemed like an inevitability back in 2022. The show was well-liked, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan was primed to be a major player in the MCU going forward, and the first season ended on a huge cliffhanger. There was clearly much more story to tell, and Marvel was pumping out TV shows faster than some of us could watch them.
But 2024 Marvel is a very different Marvel. Just last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Marvel will “decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three.” As a result, Marvel is going to have to be pickier about what it produces.
If you have seen my ranking of the MCU shows, you know that Ms. Marvel is sitting at the top of my list (although Loki season 2 might have overtaken it). With Agatha All Along now slated to hit Disney+ this fall and Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart coming in 2025, we’d be waiting until at least 2026 for Ms. Marvel season 2 to see the light of day.
By that point, there’s a chance Kamala Khan will have already made another appearance in the MCU, as teased in the post-credits scene of The Marvels. Would there even be any momentum left from the first season, which would be four years old at that point?
I’m a big fan of Vellani, and I want to see more of her in the MCU, but I’d honestly prefer to see her on the big screen. If Marvel is only going to produce two shows a year, I’d rather the studio focus on more inventive and surprising projects like Werewolf by Night.
