Hey, did you hear? Netflix has, for the first time since it ditched DVDs, done something new. The company is letting users download select movies and TV shows for offline viewing, but the key word there is “select.”
It’s not just Netflix originals that are available for download — other major TV shows and movies from networks are available. There’s no clear pattern to what’s available for offline viewing, so we’ve tried to make sense of the chaos with a list of the best shows you can download right now.
DON’T MISS: What it takes to get a NES Classic
There’s no centralized list — you just have to browse through Netflix as usual, and look for the icon that means you can download a show. Netflix’s browsing feature is famously tailored to the individual user, so the shows and movies selected here will naturally tend towards my viewing habits (please, don’t judge).
TV:
- Stranger Things
- The Office (US)
- Parks and Recreation
- Breaking Bad
- Gossip Girl
- Friday Night Lights
- House of Cards
- Orange is the New Black
- The Crown
- Narcos
- Making of a Murderer
- 30 Rock
- Star Trek (any series)
- The IT Crowd
Movies
- Pulp Fiction
- Hot Fuzz
- Jaws
- Love Actually
- The Imitation Game
As I said before, this is a non-exhaustive list that will probably change with time. Just as movies come and go from Netflix every month, we can expect the list of movies available for download to change regularly. Whether a show is available for download depends on the agreement Netflix negotiates with the copyright owner; that’s why most of Netflix’s original series, which it owns worldwide distribution rights to, are on the list.
