Pokemon Go is one of those rare cases where a wildly popular game is both beloved and loathed by players. It’s plenty of fun to play and tens of millions of people around the world continue to hit the streets each day in search of new Pokemon to wrangle. But at the same time, server woes and bugs continue to plague the game, frustrating players in the process.
One such bug forced the game’s developer Niantic to remove one of the game’s most important features not long ago, but we have good news for Pokemon Go addicts around the world: Battery Saver mode will soon return to Pokemon Go for the iPhone.

The Battery Saver mode in Pokemon Go did exactly what its name might indicate. When enabled, the phone’s display would automatically dim when the phone was placed upside down in a player’s pocket, saving plenty of battery life as a result. Or at least, that’s how it was supposed to work. The feature was incredibly buggy and unreliable, so Niantic decided to remove it completely despite the outcry from players.
Something similar happened earlier this week when Niantic removed a key Pokemon tracking feature from the iPhone and Android versions of Pokemon Go. While we still have no idea when the tracking functionality might return, the good news is that Battery Saver mode is about to make a comeback.
“We have been hearing the feedback loud and clear about the removal of the Battery Saver mode on iOS devices,” Niantic said in a post on Facebook. “We had removed this feature as several users were experiencing it to be buggy, but we are fairly confident that a fix for this should roll out within the next several days.”
So there you have it, Pokemon trainers — your battery will soon be saved. Of course, Battery Saver mode will only do so much — you should definitely make sure you carry a portable battery charger with you as well while you’re out catching Pokemon.
