Marvel’s latest superhero adventure is on pace to be one of the studio’s biggest to date, having now racked up more than $940 million globally at the box office. Captain America: Civil War pulled in $72.6 million in the United States alone this past weekend, its second weekend in theaters. Globally, the film took in more than $156 million total this past weekend.
Civil War is currently on pace to see its box office total top $1 billion this week, which will be yet another impressive milestone for the film. Perhaps even more impressive, however, is the milestone Marvel has already achieved: As of this past Sunday, Marvel’s 13 movies have now combined to pull in more than $10 billion.

Critics weren’t terribly impressed with the last Marvel flick, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film’s box office gross topped $1.4 billion and fans seemed to enjoy the movie for the most part, but it has a critic rating of just 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Civil War, on the other hand, has been praised by critics and fans alike. The movie has a critic score of 90% and a fan rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. While ratings aren’t always an indication of how a movie will perform at the box office, everything seems to be in sync in this case — Civil War is on pace to handily top Ultron.
To put the Captain’s latest in perspective, the first Captain America movie took in $177 million at the box office in 2011, and 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier totaled $260 million at the box office.
As Variety noted, Civil War will become the seventh superhero flick to top $1 billion at the box office, following The Avengers ($1.52 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.41 billion), Iron Man 3 ($1.22 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.09 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.04 billion).
