After suggesting a few weeks ago that Microsoft might be interested in discontinuing its underperforming Surface Pro line of products — a report Microsoft has vehemently denied — Digitimes now says the company might be working on even bigger Surface Pro models than the 12-inch Surface Pro 3 released a few months ago.
FROM EARLIER: Is the Surface slowly starting to pay off for Microsoft?
The new Surface Pro 3 has been well received, with Microsoft saying during its most recent quarterly earnings report that its Surface business reached $908 million in revenue during the period, a 127% increase from the $400 million in Surface sales reported in the third quarter of 2013.
Microsoft is now said to be developing 13- or 14-inch Surface Pro models that would target the business sector, although the plan is “still at its early stage, and it still remains uncertain if Microsoft will proceed” with it.
While Microsoft is apparently interested in increasing the size of its tablet/laptop, Apple is said to be working on both a 12.2-inch iPad Pro and a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air, various reports have claimed. Both these devices should compete against the 12-inch Surface Pro 3 and other similarly sized tablets and laptops.
