New iPads and Macs might be the stars of the show during Apple’s big press conference on Thursday, but eager Apple fans had much more on their minds than just hardware. New Apple software was arguably even more hotly anticipated than the company’s new iPads, and while OS X Yosemite certainly features far more changes, iOS 8.1 will be Apple’s most widely used software platform in no time at all.

Apple on Thursday announced that it will release iOS 8.1 to the public on Monday. As was the case with iOS 8, the new software will be compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third- and fourth-generation), iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.
iOS 8.1 will add Apple Pay support to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and it will also fix some bugs and enhance iCloud photo features.
Of course, after what happened with Apple’s iOS 8.0.1 update, it might not be a bad idea to wait a little while before installing iOS 8.1.
