Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 is obviously one of the most highly anticipated smartphones of 2014. With that in mind, it’s pretty clear why the recent string of iPhone mockup leaks are causing such a stir on tech blogs. Rumor has it that actual iPhone 6 schematics were leaked from Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn recently, and those schematics have been used to create several mockups of the next-generation flagship iPhone that may very well show us almost exactly what the iPhone 6 will look like. The latest such leak shows what the new larger iPhone might look like next to the iPhone 5s, and it could reveal several additional details as well.
French blog Nowhereelse.fr has published a huge cache of photos it received from an unnamed source that show an iPhone 6 mockup compared to Apple’s current-generation flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5s. An earlier leak from last week also gave us a good iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5s comparison, but this one offers far more pictures and also might reveal several additional details for the first time.
The most notable new details may be precise measurements that come along with this leak.
According to measurements taken by the person in possession of the iPhone 6 model, Apple’s new flagship phone will measure 138 millimeters tall by 67 millimeters wide and 7 millimeters thick. For comparison, the iPhone 5s measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 millimeters.
The iPhone 6 will reportedly feature a larger 4.7-inch display and in order to make room for the new screen, the company obviously had to increase the overall footprint of the phone. According to this leak though, that increase will be less substantial than some people expected — the new model will only be 11.4% taller and 14.3% wider than the iPhone 5s, if these dimensions are to be believed.
Also of note, these measurements suggest that the iPhone 6 will be much thicker than earlier rumors stated. Reports from last month said that the new iPhone would be impossibly thin at 6.1 millimeters, while this leak suggests a more realistic 7-millimeter thickness.
But as great as all that sounds, nothing is confirmed until Apple unveils its new iPhone 6 this fall.
An earlier report from reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 will feature a larger 4.7-inch display, an upgraded processor, NFC and a new thinner design. The analyst added that the iPhone 6 is expected to launch late in the third quarter this year, and he says an even bigger iPhone phablet will then be released sometime in the fourth quarter.
In the meantime, here are a few photos comparing the iPhone 6 mockup to Apple’s iPhone 5s.
Updated to clarify the source of the photos pictured above.
