The excitement surrounding the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t appear to be slowing down even a tiny bit. Just a short while ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter where he posted updated reservation numbers, and suffice it say, it’s rather impressive. Further, Musk also provided interested buyers with some more information about the highly anticipated Model 3.

According to the latest from Musk, Model 3 reservations stood at 276,000 by the end of Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, Musk indicated that Model 3 reservations checked in at about 232,000. That being the case, if the pace of reservations keeps up, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Tesla report 300,000 reservations sometime later this week. And while the $1,000 deposits for the Model 3 are completely refundable, Tesla has effectively secured a $276 million interest free loan from eager buyers.
Musk on Sunday also relayed a few more nuggets of information about the Model 3. Of particular interest is that the entry-level Model 3 will be rear wheel drive, though a dual motor all wheel drive option will be available for buyers looking to spend a bit more. And ever the salesman, Musk also added that the Model 3 will “have more cowbells” that have yet to be revealed.
Remember, Tesla’s big Model 3 unveiling this past Thursday was just part 1 of what will apparently be a two-part product introduction. On Wednesday, Musk tweeted that Thursday represents “part 1 of the Model 3 unveil. Part 2, which takes things to another level, will be closer to production.”
As a final point, for those worried that there’s no point in ordering a Model 3 today given what will inevitably be a huge backlog, Musk noted that priority is also determined by one’s geographic region.
A Model 3 order gives you priority in your geography, so, even tho total count is high, ordering early will make a big difference locally.
