Microsoft will launch new high-end Lumia handsets this year, likely once the phone version of Windows 10 is ready to roll out. Some rumors have already offered a few leaked details about these Lumia flagships, with a new picture suggesting that Microsoft is considering a new display design for its future smartphones, similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy S6 edge.

A picture posted on Twitter by NowhereElse’s Steve Hemmerstoffer shows a Windows handset with a display that’s clearly curved. As Neowin points out, the device is also marked proto.nokia.com, which seems to indicate the design belongs to Nokia’s mobile division that was acquired by Microsoft last year, predating the purchase.

The Galaxy S6 edge turned out to be a lot more popular than initially expected because of its dual-edged screen, it it’s entirely possible that Microsoft will want to make this new Lumia design a reality. Samsung’s edge display has limited functionality so it isn’t exactly a must-have feature, but the Galaxy S6 edge’s design definitely is a head-turner.

Neowin also notes that Nokia has made curved displays in the past, but only stuck to using 2.5D glass on devices, such as the Lumia 1020. The image below shows a different kind of bezel curve, one that’s similar to what Samsung has done with its edge devices.
