Apple iPad 2 launches internationally; ridiculous lines form in 25 countries [video]

Apple’s iPad 2 goes on sale Friday in 25 countries around the world, and early reports from Australia are showing monumental lines for Apple’s latest tablet. AFP quotes an Apple fan as having waited over 53 hours in line for the iPad 2 launch in Sydney, Australia, with hundreds of people waiting behind him. In addition to Austrlia, people have lined up across the globe and most are only hours away from bringing one home from the store — if inventory holds up. The list of countries where the iPad 2 is now available includes: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Reublic, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

UPDATE: Hit the break for a video from Toronto, Canada sent in by a BGR reader. The video was shot of the Apple Store at the Toronto Eaton Centre, and it was taken at approximately 9:30 a.m. The iPad 2 doesn’t go on sale until 5:00 p.m. More →

Apple iPad 2 shipping time slides to a month as shortages persist

Apple iPad 2 shipping time slides to a month as shortages persist

Some Apple Store locations may or may not be releasing a second wave of iPad 2 shipments to the public today, but potential buyers who would prefer not to deal with the chaos are in for some bad news this morning. Shipping times have varied a great deal in the short time since the iPad 2 was launched last week. Most recently, Apple listed shipping quotes of between two and three weeks. With rumors of new shipments floating around, many had hoped these shipping delays would be reduced as new inventory reached U.S. shores, but unfortunately that’s not yet the case. Apple’s online store now shows increased shipping delays of between four and five weeks, meaning orders placed today might not arrive for over a month. Apple’s shipping quotes typically err on the side of caution, however, so those who order the tablet today can expect to be pleasantly surprised when their iPad 2 ships early. More →

Apple Stores may replenish iPad 2 inventory, open early tomorrow [updated]

Apple Stores may replenish iPad 2 inventory, open early tomorrow [updated]

According to an unconfirmed report, numerous Apple Stores will be opening their doors one hour early on Tuesday as new iPad 2 shipments arrive across the country. Several shoppers seeking the new tablet today have reportedly been told by Apple retail staff that new shipments are incoming, but the iPads will not be available for sale until tomorrow. The report claims to have confirmed early openings with several Apple Store locations, though BGR placed calls to four Apple Stores and none would confirm early hours tomorrow. A retail employee at one Apple Store did say that a new iPad 2 shipment was expected today or tomorrow. Apple’s iPad 2 launch was met with tremendous demand, with some analysts estimating that Apple sold nearly 1 million units this past weekend. Apple has not issued any sales figures yet, saying only that “demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing.”

UPDATE: BGR readers George F., Efraim and others have emailed us to confirm that their local Apple Stores will indeed be opening an hour early tomorrow. Interestingly, three different stores we’ve been told about said they would open early but would not be receiving a new iPad 2 shipment until later this week or early next week. The plot is thickening, but we would definitely recommend calling your local Apple store before calling in sick tomorrow. More →

Best Buy will carry Verizon iPhone on launch day; not taking pre-orders

In a written statement today, Best Buy announced that it would indeed be carrying the long-awaited Verizon iPhone on launch day, February 10th.

“The iPhone 4 is an important device for Best Buy and we are excited to help Apple and Verizon Wireless bring it to even more consumers,” said the president of Best Buy Mobile, Shawn Score. “Our customers have come to expect Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores to carry the best selection of mobile phones anywhere, and offering the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network is our latest effort to deliver on that promise.”

What the mobile retailer will not be doing, however, is offering pre-orders of the device; that honor is solely reserved for Verizon Wireless. So… if you are going to be one of the yahoos looking to acquire a Verizon iPhone on February 10th: sharpen up those elbows and start mapping out the closest Verizon Wireless, Apple, and Best Buy retail locations. The full statement is after the break. More →

Leaked ATRIX 4G pricing from Costco jibes with Amazon pricing: $149.99

Leaked ATRIX 4G pricing from Costco jibes with Amazon pricing: $149.99

It looks like Motorola ATRIX 4G pricing revealed recently when Amazon prematurely posted a product page might not be so deeply discounted after all. Instead, the $149.99 price point could be standard among discount retailers at launch. An alleged photograph taken of Costco’s inventory system reveals the same price point for AT&T’s upcoming Android superphone. The Motorola ATRIX 4G features a 4-inch display, a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM and Google’s Android operating system. It also features an optional dock accessory that converts the device into a full-sized smartbook. Motorola confirmed that the ATRIX 4G will become available late next month, and AT&T has not yet revealed pricing for the phone. More →

White iPhone 4 may launch on February 27th at Best Buy [updated]

White iPhone 4 may launch on February 27th at Best Buy [updated]

Following news that two white iPhone models have appeared in Vodafone Germany’s inventory system, Mac Rumors reports that Best Buy is showing the highly anticipated Apple smartphone in its system as well. An alleged screen shot of Best Buy’s inventory system shows the white iPhone 4 in two sizes, both due to launch some time after Sunday, February 27th. While the authenticity of the screen shot has not been verified, the SKU numbers shown in the image match SKUs initially used by Best Buy when it took, and subsequently cancelled, pre-orders for the white iPhone 4. If the February 27th date pans out, the white iPhone 4 will end up launching less than four months before Apple announces its successor, the fifth-generation iPhone.

UPDATE:BGR reader points out that the screen shot above is actually from Best Buy’s Employee Toolkit and not its inventory system. As such, we can’t speculate on a release date at this time, as in-stock dates and release dates typically do not correspond. More →

White iPhone 4 appears in Vodafone Germany’s system

White iPhone 4 appears in Vodafone Germany’s system

The world is still holding onto hope that a white iPhone 4 will some day become a reality and if a purported screen capture of Vodafone Germany’s inventory system is to be believed, that day may soon be upon us. Verizon Wireless announced the iPhone 4 just last week and it included an image of a white iPhone on its website in the process. While the inclusion of the white iPhone was an accident and the image was subsequently taken down, the very fact that Verizon’s Web team was working with images of the white iPhone was viewed by many as a promising sign. Today, a series of images reportedly shows entries for a white iPhone in Vodafone Germany’s inventory system. The source of the pictures claims that the albino iPhone should become available soon, so perhaps white iPhone fans will actually have a few months to enjoy the phone before its successor launches this summer. Confirmed: BlackBerry Curve 3G coming to WIND Mobile

Over the last several days, rumors have been swirling that the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 would be making its way to WIND Mobile — especially after the device surfaced in RIM’s software database. Now, one of our ninjas from the North has sent us visual confirmation of the device in Wind Mobile’s inventory system. Judging by the two listings, it appears as though the handset will be offered in two colors; we’re assuming a gray or black and something a tad bit brighter. Pricing and availability have not yet been determined… anyone excited?

Samsung Fascinate begins arriving in Verizon warehouses, early September launch?

Samsung Fascinate begins arriving in Verizon warehouses, early September launch?

Phandroid is reporting that Verizon Wireless has started taking shipments of the Samsung Fascinate into their distribution warehouses. The report has a screen shot of one of Verizon’s systems that has the SCH-I500 prominently displayed. The blog is speculating a September launch which, at least to us, seems accurate. As one of our readers pointed out, the MTV Music Awards (of all things) will be officially sponsored by the “Samsung Fascinate a Galaxy S phone” and “Verizon Wireless,” amongst other things. The show is set to air on September 12th and it is hard to imagine a high-profile sponsorship such as this not to coincide with a release of some sort. More →

Motorola DROID X inventory remains exceedingly low

Motorola DROID X inventory remains exceedingly low

In a research note to investors, analyst Mark McKechnie of Gleacher & Co pointed out what most Android fans on Verizon already know- the inventory of the flagship DROID X remains incredibly low. According to Gleacher, most retail stores are sold out of the DROID X and all incoming inventory is being used to fill existing pre-orders. Walk-in sales of the flagship handset are near impossible. The situation online is not much better with the target ship date now pushed back nine days to August 4th. Anyone still looking for DROID X frustrated by this delay or are you happy to wait for this hot Android handset? More →

Chatr launch delayed for an indeterminate amount of time

Chatr handsets

Yesterday, we brought you the first shots of four Chatr-branded handsets that are arriving at retailers in Canada for an expected July 21st launch. A circulating memo that was leaked late on Friday suggests that this July 21st launch date has been scrapped. According to the memo, collateral and dummy phones shipments have been put on hold and stores with existing Chatr inventory have been told to keep the materials in storage until a new launch date is determined. Anyone north of the border disappointed by this potential delay? More →

Chatr phones begin to arrive at big box retailers

Chatr phones begin to arrive at big box retailers

Chatr handsets

Chatr, Rogers Wireless’ new cost conscious brand, is beginning to send inventory to big box retailers. As we detailed last month:

Created to serve what Rogers calls a “niche” market that is not currently served by its flagship and value brands Rogers Wireless and Fido, chatr will offer no contract voice and text plans as well as unlimited talk and text plans. Data is not a part of chatr’s game plan. According to Rogers, the big draw of chatr is not only its great plans, but that for the first time it gives urbanites who simply want to make calls and send texts affordable service from a “network they can trust.”

A launch date has not been officially announced, however a new source of ours pegs July 21st as the new network’s go-live date. Any of our friends north of the border jazzed about chatr?
