Even though Apple’s recent iOS 8.1 update was supposed to fix various iOS 8 bugs and problems, OS X Daily reports that some users have run into unexpected battery issues with the new update — and that’s even if they own the iPhone 6 Plus, which has been praised so far for its extended battery life.

FROM EARLIER: iOS 8.1 doesn’t seem to fix the huge issue that prevented you from updating to iOS 8

“I experienced this fast battery draining thing myself with iOS 8.1 on an iPhone 6 Plus, which after the update started to run physically warm to the touch and was losing battery at a highly unusual rate, where you can basically watch the percentage indicator tick down in real time,” OS X Daily writes, adding that several readers have seen similar issues.

The publication has found ways to deal with issues, managing to prevent the iPhone 6 Plus from running hot, which is a key reason for recent battery drain woes.

Following the iOS 8.1 update, the iPhone 6 Plus performs “some intensive CPU activity” likely related to iOS cleanup, Spotlight and automatic updates. Users are advised to turned the screen off and let the iPhone finish whatever it’s doing on its own. A force reboot may also be in order for those users experiencing a warmer device.

Finally, users should also check the phone’s location based reminders and background refresh settings to make sure the iOS 8.1 update did not readjust them — turned back on, some of these settings may further increase battery draining.

The same steps can be performed on any other iOS device running iOS 8.1 and experiencing poor battery life — the full guide is available at the source link.
