Back in May, BGR exclusively reported that Microsoft (MSFT) was planning to release Office 2013 for Android and iOS later this year. It looks like Microsoft’s suite of work apps won’t hit Google (GOOG) and Apple’s (AAPL) mobile platforms until some time after March 2013, however, according to IHNED’s recounting of a statement by Microsoft’s Czech Republic product manager Petr Bobek.

Updated to clarify that Office for iOS and Android will reportedly launch some time after March.

UPDATE 2: Microsoft has stated that launch details provided by its Czech Republic-based subsidiary are not accurate.

The Verge says a press release from Microsoft Czech Republic states: “In addition to Windows, Office will be also available on other operating systems, Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian.”

A new version of Office Web Apps and Office 365 will also be available around March 2013. A U.S.-based Microsoft spokesman did not confirm or deny Bobek’s possible slip up.

The Daily published an image of Office running on the iPad earlier this year which Microsoft claimed was not authentic. Microsoft appears to have had a change of heart, however. Going multi-platform with Office would allow it to have an almost universal presence on any device — a smart move when it’s trying to catch up to Apple and Google as a mobile power player.
