Microsoft could unveil Windows 8 pre-beta build on July 11th

Computers

Microsoft is prepping to release a Windows 8 preview build during its Worldwide Partner Conference on July 11th, according WinRumors. Reportedly, the Redmond-based firm will “detail Windows 8 substantially,” during the conference, and it could present a second preview “building Windows 8″ video, which we hope will show off several of the OS’s new features. Microsoft first took the wraps off of its Windows 8 demo during the D9 conference in June, when Microsoft’s Steven Sinofsky discussed the Metro UI and other features that will apply to both PCs and tablets. So far we know that Windows 8 will include Internet Explorer 10, and will be able to run both desktop applications as well as HTML 5 and Java apps that are designed for tablet-sized devices. Microsoft’s current demo devices run on Intel processors, but there are reports the company is running tests on ARM chips as well. The Consumer Electronics Association also announced on Thursday that Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer will give the opening keynote during the annual Consumer Electronics Show in January 2012 — and we suspect we’ll hear a lot more about the new OS at that time.

Dude, this thing will destroy Microsoft.  How could u like this?  Why does MS think that basing their entire desktop strategy on an untested, unproven and unliked phone OS is a good idea?

Because we have people like you who think their opinions account for the majority of people in the world

        Wow!  Haters are every where!

I am not a hater.  I LOVE Windows 7 because it works damn well and has proven its value.  I don’t know why MS has to go and take away my desktop and clutter it with this tile crap.  Windows 7 works so well and is IMO the best operating system ever, they need to stick with what works and just continue to make it better.  Balmer himself admitted that MS was taking its biggest risk ever with Windows 8, and unfortunately, MS has a terrible track record when it comes to taking risks, and I hate to say it, this is not going to go well either.  Expect another vista style fiasco.  mark my words.

You realize that the “tile crap” is like a program inside Windows 8, right? Kinda like Media Center is in Win XP, if you remember. Fear not, win 8 retains a lot of similarity with Win 7, but it has this native app/program which you’ve dubbed “tile crap.”
And of course, I’d assume some behind the scenes redesign. How do I know this? My friend dl’d the leaked version of Win 8 and ran it on a VM. It looked pretty cool, but definitely buggy.

What the fuck is a pre beta release?

    • sirpaul

Beta release is usually quite stable and usable. Prebeta is packed with bugs and is not intended to be used as a main system. It is often plagued with more major bugs that may also cause data loss. Pre beta (or alpha) release is required in order for the beta to be usable by the general public.

    • Chut Pata

All of MicroSoft products are Beta products.  Full of bugs and never stable. This creates the necessity of Beta-Beta or pre-Beta.

They are trying to grab some of apple’s thunder by releasing a buggy piece of crap that doesn’t actually work, days before apple releases their new desktop software.

Even though I’ll always stick with my Mac, I can’t wait to give Windows 8 a try.

    • sirpaul

So you have already decided that you will stick with your Mac before even trying Windows 8? Hmmm…

        Nice!

    • Andrew Goodrick–Werner

Same here! I love my Mac, and I’ll never go back to Windows, but Windows 8 looks too good not to try at least once.

You look too good not to try at least once …

        Lol

I can’t wait to feat my eyes on this puppy! Hopefully they won’t Vista us again – they have a lot to live up to with the pure awesomeness that Windows 7 is.

WOW ! Can I install it in my iPad 2…?

  • J. Williams

I can’t wait to get my hands on this.

with having some of new features like HTML 5, microsoft can become more powerful technology and bring huge market

All of you Mac owners can just wait to play with it at Best Buy in another year or so. Leave the beta testing to those that like Windows and who have been beta testing Windows for years.  Stick with your Mac we dont want you back

    • Anonymous

Thanks we will happily play with Lion, you couldn’t have us back even if you paid us

The real question is: Can I run the ARM version on my Xoom?

  • Anonymous

Good thing I didnt by Windows 7. Even though Im stuck with crappy Vista. Ill wait till WINDOWSB8 IS OUT n there’s. No point in using the beta versio.

I find it amusing that Microsoft has been unsuccessfully trying to cram windows into other devices for years, and now is trying to inflate WP7 back onto the desktop.

I remember when it was interesting to get a new version of office or windows, but now I kinda wish they’d just stop – what they have works fine.

A full Windows OS optimised for tablet. That’s what I want. If MS can really deliver on this, I can finally use a tablet for productive work besides entertainment.
