Reuters: Apple to beat Google to market with cloud music service

mobile

According to a report filed by Reuters, Apple will edge out Google in the race to provide users with a cloud music service. “Apple’s plans will allow iTunes customers to store their songs on a remote server, and then access them from wherever they have an Internet connection,” writes Reuters, citing two people familiar with Apple’s plans. The article goes on to cite a source familiar with Google’s cloud music plans, simply saying that the venture has stalled. “Apple has not told its music partners of when it intends to introduce its music locker,” the report continues. It has been widely rumored that Apple’s new North Carolina data center will be the bit-locker and heart of this new music venture. Apple declined Reuters request for comment.

The article says nothing about who was first to the market. It just states that of the two biggest players, Apple will be getting their service out before their rival.

      Typical droid Apple hater…

Actually, you can rewrite this and be 100% correct:
“If you frequent ANY BLOG ON THE INTERNET you are used to it”

Thank you for being educated and able to read. Your conclusion was correct. You win!

I’m more curious on why this is even an article… I’ve been using Google’s cloud music service for a couple of weeks now on my EVO running CM7… How exactly is Apple “beating” Google to the punch if Google already has it available?

    • Shanghai Dan

      This just in…

Amazon trounces both to cloud-based music service, but Steve Jobs declares Amazon’s approach not real and a figment of your imagination as only Apple is allowed to innovate.

      Film at 11…

I’m already storing my music on Google cloud. just basic service but all my music is on goggles servers some where. Droid Rules

But if this only works with iDevices then it is a fail in my mind. I’m hoping that Apple is getting with the program. Google has apps on Apple, yet apple can’t seem to make any apps for Android. People are not buying music from iTunes like they once were because there is no flexibility there. I have a Mac, MacBook Pro and and a Thunderbolt and XOOM, the latter because IMHO they have a better UI and run the web like no one’s business. Prove me wrong Apple.

      Well said.

    • Jcman769

Why would they write apps for android? They make money from iOS and android is competition… Google on the other hand passes out android for free, and makes money from their services, so it only makes sence to publish on iOS also. But make no mistake, their iOS apps are nowhere near that of their android apps

      • Steve Hillshire

You forgot one thing. If they wrote this particular software for other platforms, they stand to make good money from the sales of music people would vault there. Otherwise Amazon has everything for the cloud and music that plays on *any* platform.

I don’t think Apple completely understands the maneuvers Amazon is making. Amazon is definitely one company that can overturn Apple’s dominance in digital music and tablets. And one I’d trust before Apple.

Is microsoft windows not competition to mac? They make itunes for windows.

Did you ever here of webkit? …sigh…

    • Steve Hillshire

Apple is “above” providing software for “lesser platforms”. Don’t you know Apple by now? It is the same mentality of some of their followers as well. And why should Apple provide software for anyone else but the loyal subjects? They already give Apple more of their money than Apple can provide wheelbarrows for.

Except Google’s will be free, I doubt Apple’s will.
