Best Buy to offer HTC ThunderBolt, Motorola XOOM on February 14th, 24th?

mobile

The gang running the Facebook page for Best Buy’s Grand Rapids South store (shout-out to Michigan) may have just spilt-the-beans on two, highly coveted devices. According to a recent status update, Best Buy will begin carrying the HTC ThunderBolt on February 14th and the Motorola XOOM tablet on February 24th. We’ve got our fingers and toes crossed that this hot little rumor turns into fact. If the 14th is the go-live date for the ThunderBolt, we should expect an official announcement from Verizon any day now.

Best Buy removed the xoom from their update!

Yea but Best Buy is also doing pre-sales for the Thunderbolt! So is the 14th the day they are taking pre-orders? Or the day they’re selling em?

Day they selling Verizon stores too that day.

I am more than a year past due for an upgrade and would like to use my Verizon discount on the TB. Which retailer will I need to use? A Verizon online purchase, a Verizon store or can I do this with Best Buy.? Clueless here!

Also, I am on a time crunch. I would need it before the 20th since I will be out of the county after that. Thanks for any help that you can offer. I don’t understand how these things get released.

I would choose which location based on pricing. If best buy can’t do the extra discount, but they’re already $50 less, then I’d go there. Especially if the rumor is true about their buyback program being free from February 6-26. But if the VZW price is cheaper, or if you only want a 1 year contract, go there.

VZW friend told me that in training last week employees were told that Thunderbolt was set for in store release on the 14th.

      • shelleyjr

Matt, thank you for that information! I’ll be sure to be at a Verizon store on heart day!

if you buy the phone from verizon or bestbuy or wherever can you activate a week later or do you have to activate it the day you buy it? For example, if i preorder the thunderbolt at bb on sunday, then pick it up on the 14th can i wait till the 18th to activate it or do i have to activate it immediately…or, if i buy the thunderbolt from verizon on the 14th can i activate it on the 18th or do i have to activate it that day.

what im wondering is what will the 4G LTE data plan cost and what kinda tier plans they will have, they obviously wouldnt sell a LTE phone and say 3G now LTE to be determined later lol.

Is there a drawback buying from bestbuy versus a verizon store…any advantages or disadvantages…can someone offer some insight…im planning on switching to verizon for this phone but ive never bought a phone outside of the actual service provider…any thoughts would be appreciated

The nice thing about Verizon, is even if you go through a indirect retailer (best buy), you can still go through VZW corporate stores for customer, warranty, and tech support. Also, I’m not sure if BB does 1 year contracts. But they do offer their buyback program rumored to be free from February 6-26. They are also usually cheaper than VZW.

      • Jordan

Thanks for the reply, so going through bb isn’t a huge deal…i don’t seem to lose anything. Do you know how activation works if you go through best buy…do u activate right there, or can u take the phone home and activate through verizon…also, if you’re porting your number does that cause any issues as to where i decide to buy this phone from?

      • Smokinf350

They both can activate phone and port number at either place

  • hardstyle

ya well i work for verizon and i got the first displays and a dummy phone for the thunderbolt. soo any day now WOOOO
