LG likely to announce Optimus 3D next month

A new report from Dutch mobile enthusiast blog All About Phones coupled with a suggestive event invitation points to a February announcement of LG’s rumored 3D smartphone. LG on Tuesday circulated an invitation to press and bloggers for an event that will be held in Barcelona during this year’s Mobile World Congress. While the invitation does not mention the LG Optimus 3D by name, it does picture an unannounced LG Optimus smartphone above the words, “Into the New Dimension.” In addition, All About Phones points out that Carphone Warehouse’s Dutch contingent briefly and accidentally posted a placeholder for the LG Optimus 3D, before later pulling it from the site. The Optimus 3D is expected to include a glasses-free 3D display panel similar to the ones used by the Nintendo 3DS, though additional specs are unknown at this time.

    Interesting. I love 3D!

My only concern is that when Nintendo was asked why the 3DS only sported a top screen that was 3D while the bottom remained as the only touch screen, one of the reasons was that natural oil from a person’s fingers greatly reduced the 3D effect. Basically it didn’t meet Nintendo’s quality for making both screens 3D and touch and they decided to stick to top 3D and bottom touch. Guess we’ll se.

Am I wrong for thinking this will not be good for battery life?

@Chris Griffen – you’re absolutely right. Nintendo’s 3DS loses about 1/2 of its battery life according to specs leaked. Granted, that is pushing higher end games vs simple videos and the majority of the time I would think the phone would display in 2D as 3D would only be wanted for specific purposes.

I don’t want a 3D smartphone =______= I find this so useless; I can’t see the web browser in 3D, the games that are 3D are going to eat my battery up, 3D video chat is going to be pretty intense though but realistically that’s going to take another year or two. And what’s so special about a 3D homescreen? it’s just for show like those live android wall papers which got a lot more entertaining with the introduction of that microbes one on the Nexus S. Besides that idk, I feel this is a bit of over kill, we’ll see how this turns out. I just want that quad core nvidia tegra and 1.5GB of RAM and a resolution that dwarfs 1080p a la iPad x2

Man I dunno bout LG. I swore them off a few years ago when I had AT&T wireless and an LG flip phone that kept freezing up and shutting off. I didnt use anything from LG until I bought the 37 inch led tv for the bedroom. Im happy with the TV, so I thought I would try the LG Optimus T from T-mobile as a sorta in between phone. I have had nothing but problems with the LG Optimus T. It ate and destroyed my 8GB sdcard with all my music and pics and movies on it. Luckily, when I called t-mobile very distraught, the retention rep sent me a brand new G2 for the inconvenience. In addition to that, the LG drops calls, lags on my super fast wifi, has trouble rendering certain sites, and isnt as great as it could be. Therefore, I believe I am once again done with LG mobile phones. LG makes decent tv;s but I do not recommend any of their phones.
