XDA finds SIM-unlock method for all Galaxy S phones

General

If you recently purchased — or have plans to purchase – a phone in the Samsung Galaxy S line, the folks over a xda-developers have a pretty interesting tutorial up on their forums. The instructions detail how to carrier-unlock your Galaxy S phone (e.g. Captivate, Vibrant, etc.) without the need to pay for a SIM unlocking service. The process is four steps long and looks to be a 4 or 5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. Hit up the read link if you want to give this one a shot… and do let us know if you have any success.

This is misleading considering it really isn’t all Galaxy S phones since it doesn’t work on the Epic.

  • Usman

Um..that should be obvious since the Epic isn’t gsm. Wow.

While no one familiar will be confused, the title of the article does say ALL, which would include the Epic even if that is incorrect.

Oh sweet. Now I can use EDGE on At&fee with my Vibrant. Yay unlock in the US FTL!!!!!!

The Vibrant actually supports AT&T’s 3G bands and will work on AT&T 3G if unlocked :P

To clarify, the Samsung Vibrant supports UMTS bands, 1700, 2100 AND 1900. So you will get ATT 3G bands where 1900 is supported (mainly in the Northeast and some parts of the West Coast). I’m down in Florida where most of it is 850 3G band, although I believe some parts of Miami supports 1900 3G.

Yes, thank you. I should have been more specific.

Central Illinois has 1900, as well as Chicago.

This method works very well; went though this myself Saturday morning and unlocked successfully. This, after spending 45 mins on the phone with Bell the day before, asking them for the unlock code… they are a bunch of thieves imo. I bought the phone from a 3rd party off of ebay, and they wouldn’t release the code to me, even though at that point it’s no longer their hardware.

Does anyone know if the Bell Galaxy will work on the rogers network?
    Thanks

    • canistel

Yes, once unlocked. I own the bell version, and run it on rogers.

I can see a lot of these winding up on Telus,

    Will they work in canada?

  • Bob

Worked today on my Samsung Captivate (AT&T).
    Thumbs up!

The title says “sim unlock”…. Since when does the CDMA Epic use a sim card?
