U.S. Cellular releases second Android device, HTC Desire

General

It appears that U.S. Cellular has become quite smitten with the “Androids” these days. Today, the company announced that the HTC Desire will be available to its customers in stores and online on August 27. The Desire will join four other Android-powered smartphones in the US Cellular line-up, including the Samsung Acclaim and the Samsung Galaxy S, which will arrive in October. “For us, it’s not just about delivering this array of cutting-edge phones that our customers want and deserve […] We love making our customer’s lives easier”, said Edward Perez, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Operations for US Cellular. This phone is being released with Android 2.1, while Froyo (Android 2.2) is already available on several competing devices. Cutting-edge?  We say maybe not, but we still think it’s a pretty solid device.

…where did you read T-Mobile anywhere in this article?

Also, gay? Seriously? That’s not an insult.

      • Jimmy

        well played bean

Good for U.S. Cellular. Apparently they’re realizing just how popular Android is, and how much benefit to their business there is from having those devices. Also, this allows even more people to have cool smartphones, since I doubt the iPhone will ever show up on a less-than-major carrier, at least not without the jail-breaking treatment.

  • PrezBO

This would have kept me as an AT&T customer. Oh well, Droid X and Verizon, here I come.

  • th89

How can the “second Android device… join four other Android-powered smartphones”?

    • http://www.bgr.com Boy Genius

Because those haven’t been released yet? U.S. Cellular has only released one Android device to date, and now two with the Desire.

  • PAPINYC

Why bother when there’s already talk of the Desire HD?

And, where the hell does U.S. Cellular have service?

    Wyoming?

    • dave

They have very good coverage in Chicago, for one. Is that a big enough city for you?

    • http://clarkbattle.myopenid.com/ Calyx

Because the HD is going to be yet another HUGE ASS phone.  We dont need any more me-too devices.

  • The Prophet Mohammad

YAWNNNN, give me an iphone 4, not is crap

    • ViniD

      your freakin retarded as shit

      • Batman

        Ha. you’re*

  • PAPINYC

    @Dave
If they have ‘good coverage’ there, with all that wind and all, they must be really good.

    • dave

It’s called the “Windy City” because the politicians are full of “hot air”. It’s not because it’s that windy.

    • tk-093

Since the Chicago White Sox play on US Cellular Field, one would assume they have good coverage. :)

  • HellBoy

    @Travis
    you’re a retard!!! I’m saying that I wanted T-mobile to have this phone!!! Dumb-ass!!!!

  • http://Kieranbullen.com Kieran

Well this became a flame fest pretty quickly. For those whowant this on AT&T, come to Canada and get one unlocked from Telus and unlock it. 500 with tax.

  • JoTech

Too bad for the Saint Louis market, they would probably really love this phone if they had 3G!…SMH

  • Brett H

US Celluar is actually the carrier of Choice in Eastern NC. It has more coverage than any of the big 4. I personally have t-mobile, but if you have US Cellular you have coverage EVERYWHERE from I95 all the way to the coast. All EVDO as well. They are a big regional player in my opinion.

This phone is still rocking, regardless that the desire HD is coming out. It takes regional carriers like this much longer to pick up a phone. They should be excited.

    • Darwin

The problem is only steers and queers live there..

      • Al Chablis

You, sir, are an idiot. I hope you die.

  • Dave

Wait… The HTC Desire is a CDMA phone also? i always thought it was GSM… isnt us cellular cdma?

  • Shane

Yeah. US Cellular is CDMA. Pretty excited about the Desire, myself.

  • Ryan

Ive heard alltel is going to get this phone as well and the galexy s

I hope HTC has improved the battery life issues from the Incredible.

    • Andrew

It will. The SLCD, or super LCD from Sony gives an increase and it has a larger battery than the Incredible

    • RumSpy

Android 2.2 is supposed to have a positive impact on battery life, too. Holefully USCC will work it into the Desire soon! I will be picking up the Desire the morning it comes into the store. In Milwaukee USCC has the best reception from my experience.

  • dd

THis phone has terrible battery life and is very choppy – don’t buy it!

  • Mr. Bill

Found quite the opposite myself, Picked one up for a 3rd line. It’s snappy in everything that has been thrown at it.

Battery life with the S-Lcd, is decent as well, no complaints, a days usage with a lot of net stuff running an live map as a wallpaper.

Being a WM dude, I found it to be a fairly pleasant experience, and I have no regrets with it at all.

HTC’s got the mobile industry in a stranglehold…straight up juggernaut!

  • http://www.directorycellphones.com/ Alex Sam

It sounds good that now HTC Desire is now available with U.S. Cellular. This handset has very awesome features and it can easily beat any other handset with its remarkable features. I think this deal between HTC and U.S. Cellular will bring many exciting offers for their consumers.

  • Al Chablis

I hope that some day soon, many of the people at the “Top 4″ will realize the stranglehold their carriers are placing on them and come to the ONLY U.S. wireless carrier that does it right. Hear about that government inquiry into mandating overage alerts for customers? U.S. Cellular did it first (and free) with Overage Protection. Data costs? Lower than all others. 3G? Larger now than the Globe. Battery Swap, Free to change your plan with no contract extension or charges. Come on people, you would rather be RAPED over a barrel and taken advantage of for all of the wrong reasons than going with a carrier that actually has your back? What is wrong with people?

  • http://jaypeez.wordpress.com john paul

hmm that sure doesnt look like my iphone nickle minus a penny

  • Yousuck

    Sucks!!!!!!!!!

  • http://clarkbattle.myopenid.com/ Calyx

This is the best android phone on the market.  Too bad the big 4 are too stupid to offer it.  The think we dumb Americans all want huge city-sized screens.  They cant imagine that anyone would want anything less than 4″. US Cellular sucks but Ive got to hand it to them for choosing a great phone.
