Retail

Reuters is reporting that retail giant Best Buy has signed a partnership deal with WiMax network operator Clearwire. Beginning in 2011, Best Buy will be offering wireless 4G data plans, on Clearwire’s WiMax network, under their Best Buy Connect service offering. No details on pricing, availability, or hardware have been announced. Currently Clearwire’s 4G network covers 43 major cities around the U.S. More on this as it develops…

It’s very exciting news! I’ll probably get around to signing up for Sprints 4G service when they have a device that’s not a confusing, ever changing interface like Android. Seriously, billion dollar company like Google and their Android operating system is like splatter-paint. New Blackberry with Webkit browser or Windows Mobile 7 in 4G flavor would be a sweeet!

I agree that it will be nice to take advantage of the 4G resell services on a device that doesn’t have a broken, fragmented OS. I’m also waiting for a 4G Blackberry. An OS that is actually real world usable.

  • Mohammad

If android is so fragmented why is it growing so fast?

Spam has a bunch of different flavors and it sells well too. And I’m not talking about the type of spam that is your worthless post.

Because things sell well…they must automatically be good!

Would expect that logic from an Android user. Go press your pretty button and make the fart sounds.

viral marketing, the largest carrier in the US not having the iphone, the largest carrier in the US advertising it as an iphone alternative, cheap to build a billion different models, children like toys and a droid sounds like a toy, they give a lot of them away on contract, the 3rd and 4th largest carriers also don’t have the iphone, the 3rd and 4th largest carriers promote knockoff (android) phones as iphone alternatives, the At&t/Apple exclusivity deal, new models coming out every month….and that is just to name a few

    • Professor Stevens

Already answered, but to elaborate more for our poor lil Android user-

Fragmented refers to the fact that there are numerous different OS versions and UI’s.

So you’re asking why then, with so many different OS versions and UI’s is it selling so fast? That’s a false argument. The fragmentation is irrelevant to its ability to sell.

Why it sells is because VZW users are desperate for the iPhone, and they successfully launched a multi-million dollar ad campaign to appeal to those people. People see the ads that show the “edgy” bad-ass transformers-esque Droid, and do what the tv tells them to do. The same way they make Big Macs a part of their every day diet. There’s a reason why McDonalds is billions and billions served.

Droids are that same stupidity in a box, a virtual Happy Meal with crazy sounds and cartoon graphics.

Maybe because Android doesn’t have a fucking thing to do with WiMax – just like your post.

      • Alex1

Woooo didn’t take long for the Waaaandroid users to come out and cry. Able to stop flashing your Droid X around to compensate for your small pecker size long enough to make a post, I see. Talking about WiMax devices has everything to do with WiMax, Waaaaandroid dumbass.

Because it’s available on every network. Not like the iPhone and it’s lame carrier of AT&T only.

I’m speaking of just the U.S. of course.

The Samsung Galaxy S series smartphones have really caught my interest.

I am sickened by all you folks who are bashing Android. You don’t like it? Fine, stick with your iPhone or your Blackberry, or whatever your flavor is. My real question would be: if you are so happy with your phone, why do you feel the need to bash another? Are you seriously that pathetic? Get a grip and a clue and please shut your mouth. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you HAVE to talk, ya know…

  • offday

has like NO coverage in LA yet..don’t really care =P

  • Chellykay88

I always wonder if the ppl who hate on AT&T and the iPhone have ever had one? I honestly didn’t understand what the big deal was about the iPhone until I got one. Now I love it. However I think android is a great platform too. The iPhone is easy to use and just looks sexy plain and simple. But just bc I have an iPhone I don’t bash android

Retailers selling internet service could get interesting. The more companies offering a service the cheaper it will be.
What’s with all the Droid haters? Would you prefer that it never existed and your os of choice had less competition? Without Google’s Android, BB and Apple would definitely be offering less with each os release. I had an iPhone and loved it and now have an N1 as my phone and wifi service at over 2megs downstream anywhere in my house. It’s a lot more than a phone. Short of being a developer what the hell do you care about a fragmented os. As a consumer all you should care about is what the phone can do for you, period.

Sprint be makin’ moves! First, Walmart, and, now, Best Buy.

Hate if you want, but, so long as it lowers pricing, I’m all for it!!!

U.K. pricing here the U.S. comes!!!! … Hopefully.

    • ejumacayshun

you do realize their prices are listed in pounds, not dollars, right? They sell phones at profit, then have rates that are slightly lower than ours. Euros are used to paying 600 for high end devices. We aren’t.
And Sprint isn’t making a move, Clear is.

  • Clearwire 4G?

Really! Now maybe clearwire will decide wether they want to switch to LTE and be like everyone else who’s on that band. Oh yea it’s sad with HSPA+ has faster speed than clearwires media heavy 4G WiMax. They have done a great job making people think it’s 4G. Granted there is still a lack of coverage for both technologies right now. But let’s wait and see how long clearwire stays with WiMax before they see Verizon and ATT both using LTE and having faster speeds. Enjoy your time with the first 4G network! Now hopefully Best Buy won’t screw this up and will interesting to see if other carriers allow Best Buy the opportunity to sell there own priced planed service.

  • ejumacayshun

it’s “sales.” And your math is a little off.

  • http://www.apexcarpentryinc.com Utah carpenter

I tried Clearwire for 5 minutes. I could only get 2 bars signal at my home and the speed was like dial up, very disappointing.
