Verizon Wireless DROID X plagued by Wi-Fi connectivity issues?

General

Motorola-DROID-X-2

Chatter on the forums suggests that the latest update hitting the DROID X has not fixed the WiFi connectivity problem many users were reporting. Affected DROID X owners report that their handsets have difficulty connecting to a WiFi router and poor network performance once a connection has been established. Several users report that changing the encryption from AES to TKIP has alleviated the problem, while others note that changing your router to 802.11g instead of 802.11n has decreased the number of network disconnects. Anyone with a DROID X currently experiencing this problem?

Thanks, Goreja!

I was having similar wifi issues and founf a solution.

    1) Be sure you are updated to 2.3.15 (Android 2.2)
    a) Settings > About Phone > System Update

    2) Go to Settings > Location & Security

    3) Ensure that ‘Use Wireless Networks’ is turned on. It is turned off by default (yes an oversight)

    4) Also turn on ‘Use GPS satellites’ and ‘Enable Assisted GPS’ while you are in there.

    5) D R O I D

Yes, I am one of those Droid X owners having WIFI issues. Phone connects perfectly fine with network, but then has many problems loading web pages or maintaining connectivity even though I show a strong signal. If I switch to 3G, everything is fine. I recently changed my wireless n router to use WAP/WEP2 security in order for Tivo to read the signal…guess this is the common problem.

Check your routers QoS settings. Droid X has serious problems with MMS.

Turn MMS off and you should be good to go!

YES! I just got a Droid X, and it’s absolutely horrible. I’m a network admin; I do this for a living. I tell you – this thing is seriously, seriously messed up. I just got mine about a week ago; struggled with it for days, and it is pretty awful It’s such a shame, because other than that, it’s a great phone. The N just plain doesn’t work, and when it does it works really really poorly. I hope they can fix this with a software upgrade, and I hope they do it soon. The internet is full of people complaining about my exact same symptoms.

When I first got my Droid X, WIFI worked fine. he lat couple months, I get constant disconnects on anybody’s WIFI, including my own which is not encrypted anymore. Also; when I have WIFI turned on, 3G doesn’t work either but when I turn WIFI off, 3G works fine.

I connect with my droidx on my home wifi without any problems, but have problems at work.  I make connections ok, but cant get web pages or pop3 email until I shut of wifi and go back to 3g.
