DROID X first production run sold out online, now shipping July 23rd

The DROID X proved to be extremely popular today, as the first production run is now sold out online. Folks looking to avoid the dreaded mail-in-rebate by buying online will now have to wait until July 23rd for their handset to ship. In-store sales have been equally strong with most stores selling through their launch day inventory. If you didn’t snag a DROID X yet don’t despair, additional shipments are expected to replenish the brick and mortar stores in the upcoming days.

    Wow. Very interesting article by gizmodo. BGR would NEVER EVER DARE be honest and say anything negative about a VZW phone,especially not a Droid. Noah from phonedog is right,if you happen to be on big red,go with the Incredible.

    Just returned mine.

    Cool features but I figure I don’t want to be carrying around a tablet all the time. I’d prefer a not so wide form factor.

    I’m going to get the Fascinate instead.

      Um, the Fascinate is the same width as the Droid X. So if you don’t like the width of the Droid X, you won’t like the width of the Fascinate.

      Rumor has it that Fascinate would not be a full version of Galaxy S, but rather a scaled down version, just like AT&T Captivate. e.g. there is no front facing video conferencing camera. AT&T does not want another bandwidth hogger like iPhone, and Verizon has seen what iPhone did to AT&T. iPhour has front camera but video conferencing will happen only on wifi, plus AT&T has ended unlimited plan!

        Why would you want a phone with NO Front Facing Camera, NO custom rom possibilities, NO chance of 4g LTE, NO capacitive touch buttons, NO price value plans, NO… could go on but if you’re still reading this you’re clearly not convinced that this phone is so 6 months ago and you need to be clubbed over the head and dragged out back for critters to nibble at.

        people who come on to forums to simply be haters are so cool, especially the ones who can use BOLD letters to try to make minor quibbles seem HUGE! The Droid X is not a massive jump forward from say the Droid Inc., but it has some really impressive features (e.g. great TI processor; large, quality screen, Verizon’s superior network, etc.). And while the EVO and iPhone are also nice devices, few people will actually use video chat on them because it’s too much of a hassle. The X also has a more dense screen than the EVO. I, unlike the vast majority of users, personally enjoy being able to flash custom ROMs, but that is hardly a deal breaker. Consistent service is way more important to me. However, I respect that others have different priorities and feel no need to poop on other peoples’ parades. And all devices will be obselete in 6 months

        Your correct I hate Verizon Wireless and the way they do business and look around you my man I’m not alone. Where there is smoke there is fire and not only that, it is our God given right to give our opinion like it or not! Look at all the sites dedicated so people can make an educated decision waying the prose and cons of doing business with Verizon Wireless with all drama aside is the worst company I have ever done business with.

    The efuse, self destruct thing, has been blown so out of whack it’s not even funny anymore.. People need to get their facts right before they keep beating a head horse. Go back a few topics and read, “Reality Check: Modding the DROID X may not lead to a bricked phone”. Efuse did not show up for it’s first time in the DX, it’s in the Orig. Droid and European Milestone hardware. Main issue that Dev’s will encounter is a more securely locked bootloader. AKA more of a challenge! EVEN IF the X is less modifiable then other android phones, WHO CARES!!! It’s still gonna be pretty bad ass phone with some really great features and hardware! If I had a guess, I bet no more the 3% – 5% of the X owners even know what rooting, bootloaders, or custom roms mean. So, I say congrats to Big Red for a successful first day launch. I’m sure they’re gonna allocate a certain amount every few days from the main warehouses to keep a decent supply and demand going. I’m gonna pray that Moto had all their ducks in a row with hardware and supplies. We can be sure that the lack of amoled screen, that is greatly affecting some of the other android phones, won’t be a problem seeing that the DX uses a TFT LCD, i think?.. Anyways. I can’t wait to get mine tomorrow! Just remember, VZW offers a 30 day worry free guarantee! It’s your choice.

      The Milestone bootloader hasn’t been cracked after 7 months. This will be no different.

    Just got my email 5 min ago that mine shipped out of Memphis to be delivered tomorrow NLT 1500! I’m relieved because I placed my order at 1513 & the rep said they had to be in by 1500 to ship same day. That on top of the sellout would’ve been just my luck

      WTF I ordered mine at 2:38 AM EDT on 7/15 My order status says:

      “Your order has been processed and will be shipped based on inventory availability and shipping method. You will receive shipment notification and tracking details via email.”

      Is Verizon playing games. Based on others, mine should have switched.

        I had the message and it all depends when you ordered it but July 23rd seems to be the target date.

        I oredered mine 2:00 am on the 15th and it took their automated system until 6:00 pm that evening to proess my payment so they included me with the people who ordered after 2:30 pm that dat. That is a butch of bull *%#$.

      I am in the same boat, except I bought the X too. It will be fun to compare the Inc and the X when the X arrives today. I love the Incredible, especially since it’s finally been fully rooted and some stable froyo ports are being released, but the X and it’s beautiful screen and TI processor looks so sweet too.

    Love my X just a little more than my incredible. The efuse thing doesnt bother me, since I dont keep phones long enough to reach EOL. The X is a beast. The Omap chip is a bit faster than the Snapdragon. When u get your X clean all the widgets off the home screen all the RSS feeds make the home screen a bit laggy. Stop the Rss feeds this thing moves blazin fast…Another thing LauncherPro is the launcher to have

    I’ve had the original Moto Droid since its release, and the iPhone 3G before that, but i have to say THIS is the jump in mobile performance that ive been waiting for. I still cant get over how smooth and good-looking the demo for Need for Speed Shift is, or how beautiful the screen looks, it finally feels like my PSP has been replaced. Only complaint is that the camera should be better than it is and the hump that it has is a bit of a throw off, other than that this phone is the S**T!!! F**K the new iphone 4 go with this, even the Evo 4G doesnt feel this fast!

    Well, I ordered my X around noon CST, with Bill to my account option. I got an email process notification within the hour.

    I have a friend who works for Verizon and another who works as an authorized sales agent. Difference from the main V stores, are they are on special billing codes to get an alloted amount of phones. The “auth agents” have to pay upfront for the phones and there for that is why some only get a hand full.

    When I opened the box, (I had the prev droid) I was amazed at how much bigger the phone was. I never looked at the phone before, read about it… nothing. I just knew I wanted it.

    I pull this thing out, and I am thinking… Well there will be a lot of people who LIKE the bigger phone. I have long fingernails and always was a pain to use the keyboard, so that was actually a plus. No slide keyboard, no bulk, just wide. I do have to say that I actually love the side of the screen after using it. The navigation is flawless. Easy to use and the new screen protectors with anti-glare make it easy to view while out in the day light. The 8mp cam takes awesome photos, with HD details. The HDMI is pretty awesome too! I take video of my kids and can view it on my 60in LCD TV. You can also buy or download and rent movies from Blockbuster and watch them anywhere. I have a LCD tv in my truck for the kids to watch and the movies are best kept on my phone. So many DVDs are been broken in the car!

    This phone is actually a lighter than the Droid, too. The only thing I would like to see them add, soon is Flash ability on websites. I run a browser in web format and find that sometimes I cant view the BOX because its flash based. They are working on this and first launch/release nothing is perfect. NOR is any technology.

    This is an upgrade from the Iphone! 4 people I know played with my phone and left ATT moving over to verizon to get the X. They said the same crap about – ‘to big’ blamed service provider… however they are now truly amazed at such power and crisp the screen is. They went in store and managed to get 4 phones! Plus Verizon paid them out of the last month on the ATT contract. Which i thought that was pretty awesome! They offered the same for me but I didnt need out of mine.

    All goes to show, you dont know what you have or could have till you check it out. Sure, if you like your phone then stay with it. Since you are searching around online about he driod x does show you are curious about what you don’t have. We all like to think… “my car is better than yours” “my house is better than yours” and “my phone is better than yours” and so on …

    Its human natural to make oneself feel that the choice they make, are the better of the two… even if something else comes along… NEW does not always mean better… however I am really enjoying this NEW toy and have no complaints!
