Even though most schools are now shut down for summer, that doesn’t mean that companies have given up trying to selling products to students. Amazon today announced that it has refreshed its Kindle DX. Now featuring an even better 9.7″ E Ink display that boasts a 50% increase in contrast ratio, the next-gen Kindle DX also received a price drop and now stands at an attractive $379. The only other major difference is that the Kindle DX is now graphite as opposed to white. The Kindle DX is available now for pre-order and is set to ship on July 7th.

I’m not sure whether to trust this story. Sounds too good to be true, and considering the other fiction posted earlier today . . .

$379? Interesting. and for $120 more you can get… oh that’s right. Everything else possible. Amazon succeeds in reasonable pricing once more.

They should be giving them away. The money is in the subscription.

Am I missing something? How is $379 a reasonable price for a device that’s black and white and only serves as an e-book reader? Being honest here.

You can buy a lot of books for $379.

To be honest, I don’t think I know anyone with enough spare time to read books in public.

Agree with Mike D. Give them away and make money off of the books. Besides rather than pay 379 for a kindle, people would have more money to buy books. I have a kindle (handed down to me) and seen an ipad. Not even close. The value of the kindle has significantly dropped and amazon has yet to recognize that reality.

My 16 Gig Wi-Fi iPad has already been shipped. I would not buy the Kindle DX for $50. FAIL.

I am thinking of buying EVO. iPad+kindle+Phone+ZuneHD < EVO 4G.

They took a palm pilot from 2000, made it bigger, added PDF’s to it and now they wanna charge 379…
