Sprint-bound Samsung Intercept breaks cover

General

samsung-intercept

We’ve been waiting for the Samsung Intercept to show its face for quite some time, and here it is. The successor to the Moment, the Intercept will land on Sprint on July 11th. While much of its features are still a mystery, it is known that the Intercept runs Android 2.1, has a 3.2″ display, has a four-row sliding QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi, GPS, and — if we’re lucky — an improved camera.

Samsung makes great screens, but their phones blow.

Looks ok, the more choices people will have at Sprint the better Sprint is of. But they should get Samsung to make little bit nicer looking phones. Looks lot like Moment, guess they liked that style, to each is there own, love the EVO.

Finally a phone with send and end buttons! I wish that the high powered smartphones would take notice. It’s much more comfortable to be able to end a call with one button when the phone is still at my ear than having to put my phone in front of me and wait for the proximity sensor to adjust to the light and turn back on the screen so I can hit the ‘end’ icon.

Sprint needs a decent free or moderately priced Android phone. This has a shot of being the phone you take home if you want the Evo and decide you can’t pay that much for a phone/plan. That is, as long as it is $99 or less on a 2 year deal.

im geting mine for free from wirefly.com with my new account of sprint service

    That keyboard = FAIL
Every qwerty sould be designed like the same layout as the HTC Touch Pro 2 on Sprint.
It has a PROPER space baras the bottom of the unit, not in the middle of the letter row.
Second, it should have the numbers as “alt keys” embedded in the alpha keys and arranged like a phone dialer.

Lastly, who the hell is going to buy this thing with the Epic 4G launching ????

    • Endo

Space bar placement seems fine. Can’t be that hard to get used to. Number pad is also not a big deal. Most people who want to use numbers like a phone dialer arrangement will likely be doing it on the touch screen.

I like this better than the Epic. It is probably a little smaller, and also probably 3G-only which likely means no mandatory $10 bend-over monthly fee. For those that aren’t in a 4G area this is a great cheaper alternative.

    • Victor

The EVO 4G was $199, so the EPIC 4G will be the same, plus the $10 a month. Now, let’s say this phone’s $99. That makes a pretty sweet deal, especially for those who don’t have 4G in their area.

Like Bill said, free is better. Get it at Wirefly

Wow! Google and partners are feverishly filling the gaps left over by Windows Mobile. WP7 might come to a saturated market come the holidays.

    Hurry up MS! :-)

  • John Doe

The only difference with this and the epic 4g is that this one has a send/end keys and a trackpad

  • Gah

This phone is going to be an android phone at a budget price.

The camera is a 3.2 megapixel with no flash and just a vanity mirror.

But overall it seems pretty cool, it comes in that black color and pink.

Think of it as an EPIC Mini lol

  • John Doe

The only difference with this and the epic 4g is that this one has a send/end keys and a trackpad.

  • Gah

    Ummm Not so John Doe.

Epic has a 4in SUPER AMOLED Display, Intercept has a 3.2 inch
Epic has a 5mp camera on the back with an led flash, Intercept has a 3.2mp with no flash
Epic is 4g, Intercept is not.

Thats just a FEW differences, there are plenty more.

  • mykie

Why would anyone want this with the Epic on the way?

    • Eric

I think the newest phones are adding features we no longer need. Speed is one thing that will never hurt but other than that I see little to no value to the newest features (especially if you don’t live in 4G area).

I am content with having a phone that surfs the internet, makes calls and GPS. After that everything is just bells and whistles to tell people you can do. Serves no real purpose.

  • NGK

anyone have a link with Epic breakdown/specs/features? Sprint site is mundane….

  • Chris Yorke

not everyone wants a 200 dollar phone. Like someone else said this is the phone you end up leaving with once you go in and play with the EVO or the Epic and decide you dont need 4″ or larger screens, you dont need 4g, you dont need 1ghz processors, you dont need AMOLED and the highest MP camera known to man on a phone. You just want a phone you can use Shazaam, Facebook, and some games.
ODnt get me wrong I would probably rather have the Epic or EVO but there is nothing wrong with middle of the road phones. They are there for the masses not the power hungry.

I have a moment and I love it.. Sure its not as high quality as an iPhone, Evo or even TP2.. but its far from cheap.. This phone will sell great even though Ill pass for an Epic or Evo

Interesting. The location that Google Maps is centered on (in the screenshot) is in an office park that houses the offices of Boeing, Microsoft, and… Verizon Wireless. AT&T and T-Mobile both have offices minutes away from that location, but as far as I’m aware Sprint and Samsung do not.

Conspiracy theorists – make something of this.

  • Creighton

Ok So I have the Moment and would not get this phone for the mere fact that its pretty much the same actually not as good WHY??? did they not include a flash on the camera like the Moment has which works great and is a bright camera flash what a dumb move!

So I have had this phne for a week now, and here is the gist . . . It is NOT a copy of the Moment. This phone is far smaller. When the slide board is closed, it is just about the same size as the Hero. It fits very comfortable in my front pocket, where with the Moment I had to use a belt holster. It feels solid, no creaking when I slide open the keyboard, or tap ot messages. In person it looks more expensive than most phones displayed around it as well. It is also slightly faster, or at least seems that way. The web surfing is NOT hindered by the lesser settings as reported. In fact, I was able to search and open a local search faster than my buddy could his new Evo. The bottom line is this: if you want a phone that is affordable, surfs very well, has a mess of apps that work well on it, and access to all of the popular social sites out there, this is your phone. No there is not a flash for the camera, but the trade off is a longer lasting battery out of the box than the Evo.

    GSM router
Data transmission via the GSM mobile network is the alternative in the absence of other transmission media such as dedicated lines or telephone networks and wherever it would be too expensive to set up your own radio network. Of course a GSM signal that is sufficiently strong must be available at the location. The latest SINAUT quadband mobile wireless modem makes operation in the GSM networks available worldwide (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz range).

I wanted a Moment but all they had was an Intercept Coming from a cracked Instinct, I appreciate the pull out keyboard on the left side. Back and Home keys work 50% of the time, total insanity! Fail. No Flash!? Fail. People hear you cussing them out “after” a call because it takes it’s merry old time End Call. Fail. Battery dead even with low light and low sound no vibrate by midafternoon? Fail.
