At E3 this afternoon, Microsoft announced that it will be bringing over 3,500 live sporting events a year to the Xbox 360 via a partnership with ESPN. The new alliance will bring ESPN3 content, polls, instant replays, and social data directly to your Xbox gaming rig, complete with Kinect integration; all that is required of you is an Xbox LIVE gold membership and a love of sports.

There has to be a catch. It sounds too good.

There is no catch. It will be an enhanced experience from ESPN3. ESPN3 does not stream all its content in HD unlike the ESPN Xbox Live offering.

Well, you do have to buy a Gold membership…

there is a catch…not all ISP’s (internet providers) like time warner and verizon will let you watch ESPN.

      • Adam

As of September 2nd, Time Warner now offers ESPN3 and all associated content.

When is it coming out? At the same time as Kinect or before?

Well those of us that still do exist that DON’T have cable appreciate this a great deal. I watch almost all my shows, cable and non cable off the net so this is a very welcome update. Makes my Xbox a lot more useful past enjoying the games.

I loved ESPN 360 on my PC but this over the top!! For someone that does not buy cable and loves sports, I am ecstatic.

there is a catch, you must have and affiliated broadband provider. for instance, i get my internet from time warner, and they do not provide it :(

    • Garcon

Until the FCC says otherwise, the Internet is the Internet is the Internet. You’re an idiot, Jerry — it doesn’t matter where you get your Internet access from.

      • Scott

ESPN treats ESPN3.com as a cable network and signs carriage agreements with ISPs. If your ISP doesn’t have an agreement, you can’t access ESPN3. Plain and simple.

Straight from the FAQ at ESPN3.com:

How do I get access to ESPN3?

ESPN3 is available nationwide, but you must subscribe to a participating high speed internet service provider.

Like Jerry, I cannot watch anything on ESPN3 because I have Road Runner Internet through TWC.

do you guys think this will be exlusive only to US?

  • fan_of_fanboys

I am a ps3 fanboy but this may convince me, along with kinect, to pick up a 360 for the guest bedroom.

I am looking forward to this. I am very excited about this. I used to not be a sport fanatic, but now I like watching sports much more. I wish they would put out a release date and hope it comes out soon! it seems like theres lots to do on it as far as researching sports goes and watching the sports game!

will it matter what service provided you have once it comes out for xbox or will having a gold membership be enough? I also have time warner cable and can’t watch online but I’m very excited about the idea of being able to watch on xbox
