iOS 4 GM Candidate

If you have an iPhone, an iPhone developer account, and a hankering for new code, it would behoove you to mosey on over to developer.apple.com, as Apple has just released iOS 4 “Gold Master” candidate to developers. GM candidates are as close to production code as you can get, and, baring any gross oversights or bugs, will most likely be the code pushed to iPhone users later this month. To those of you with developer accounts: do let us know if you find anything new…we’ll be sure to do the same.

any chance this will be leaked to some torrent sites for a download if your not a developer?

that’d be a negative. you have to actually add your UDID to the developer database to be able to activate the device after the software is installed.

I’m running it on my 3GS right now. You don’t need a UDID for gold master builds. The whole point of these builds is if there are no serious bugs found, that’s the build they ship out to customers.

I’m not a dev, nor have I registered with anyone else. Look around.

where did u get the gm file to download and install it?

today apple announced that you dont need a UDID to download. Websites are popping up all over that give it away for free. I have installed iOS 4 on my iTouch 2G, but I cant seem to get itunes 9.2!!

      • Zaris

iTunes 9.2 beta is only available if you are on a Mac, if you are this is were i got it http://imodzone.net/download/

What about Meego? That’s what everyone wants to read about! ;-)

I have my UDID registered with a developer but I use windows (I test their software). Would I be able to install the gold master release candidate on my ipod touch 3g through windows?

    • Zaris

No, you have to have iTunes 9.2 which currently is only available for Mac.

It sucks Apple charges to develop for them. I develop for Android and WebOS because they’re free!

You don’t have an audience as large as Apple, or a code base as robust as Apple, or documentation as thorough as Apple, or a potential as large as Apple. You’re paying for more than you think.

It’s a small price to pay for the benefits.

And do you not require something like $25 to publish your app on the Marketplace?

  • Ag

Yeah, good luck selling your software on those platforms!!!!

I second that! It’s running on my 3GS. I got it there. Only on Macs with beta version of itunes supporting it. 9.2f1 (although most of the apps in the store are not updated to use the new background APIs) but mail/folders/etc looks great. I’m waiting for Pandora to update their app.

I wonder who’s burying you guys. The link is good. That’s where I got it from too.

The only downside is you have to update iTunes or your folders will break every time you sync ( assuming it syncs at all using 9.1.1 – I didn’t try)

ios4 gm seed loaded…where is ibooks? double-click-hold for favorites?

    • Adam

Maybe you should read up a bit first before asking questions.

  • Dennis

Ok, Newbie to iphone upgrades. When they say “alt click” on the restore button can anyone be more specific? A mac does not have a alt key? Can anyone explain it for the newbie. :-) I have downloaded the beta version of itunes and also the correct software for the 3gs. I tried all variations with the restore button and the only thing it did was restore the original software.

Again thanks for the support since i am a newbie to iphones due to the fact i came from a blackberry.

    Thanks for the help.

    • Josh Harrison

A mac does have an alt button, it’s the same as the option button.

    • Zaris

Ya, it says alt on the option key

Is iBooks in the developer ios4? For 3GS?

    • Lewis

      Nah I can’t see it

  • Joey
