T-Mobile yanks buggy HD2 software update

Software

It seems T-Mobile simply can’t catch a break when it comes to software updates. Not even three months removed from its disastrous CLIQ update, T-Mobile has been forced to remove the recently released software update for the HTC HD2 after a load of complaints from users started. What sort of complaints? Oh, you know, just the typical “I can’t download the update” / “my battery life has been shot to hell” / “my phone is bricked” / “my phone is slower than Bengie Molina”. So far there’s no official timeline for a new update, but a T-Mobile forum mod has gone on the record as saying “once the issues have been resolved, the software update will be re-posted on www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade.” Good to know…

    Nothing’s slower than Bengie Molina.

      LOL!

For the record, I’ve been running this update since before they officially released and it runs great! I haven’t had a single problem and this update actually fixed the only problem with the original T-Mobile ROM – occasional lag in the HTC Messaging App.
Since running this update, that issue is completely gone. I’ve seen some people have screen sesitivity issues on the boards (I never had that problem) but that issue is easily fixed by a simple reg edit, takes about 5 seconds.

My confusion continues, is this not the same “iPhones days are numbered HTC HD2?” Another classic example of “to many cooks in the kitchen”.

“iPhones days are numbered HTC HD2?”

Don’t be confused, my iPhone days are numbered. 11 to be exact. Hello EVO goodbye Apple.

      • bob

I was gonna buy an EVO until I found out the 4g only works when you’re in a Radio Shack store ;)

Bob get your peanut brain out of your pink redish hole you idiot.

Funny thing is – I downloaded the update from the link before it officially went live (hidden Tmo link). It works great on my phone. I think the main problem was that so many people were trying to download it, the servers couldn’t keep up.

  • Worked For Me

Worked for me. HD2 worked great before, works great after. That’s all I got to say about that.

  • Blackula

i havent downloaded it. thank god lol.

    • the doctor

i’m with you, almost downloaded it last night.

  • David

HTC failed allowing Windows Mobile to run on this phone. Windows Mobile = automatic fail.

  • bryan

It was a problem with people getting a bad download, that is why the link was pulled. If you got a good download the update works very well, a little slow at first if you have lots of contacts syncing with facebook.

  • ashwin

its win-mo, what did you expect?? Are any of us actually surprised that a win-mo phone has software issues and bad battery life? If you are, you’re not being honest with yourself…

I had the HD2 for only one day and it is a great phone hardware wise, but like was mentioned above windows mobile killed it, It was like having a four cylinder engine on a Ferrari.I ended up returning it, went over to Verizon and got me a HTC incredible.

  • Worked For Me

    @ashwin

If you say so. I’ve never had a problem with any WinMo phone I’ve ever had… MDA, Shadow and now HD2. I had more issues w/ my G1 in the near-2 years I had it than any of those phones.

Maybe I’m the exception, maybe I’m the one motherf***er who either knows how to use the handsets he gets or just been damn lucky… point is: Your comment is retarded and silly to me. I would agree with you if I had any problems, but I never have which makes your words, and all the haters words, pretty worthless.

So haters… its whatever. I could say Android sucks based on my experience w/ the G1… you all would jump down my throat in a minute screaming about EVOs and Incredibles. People who got an HD2 and hate it… oh well. Sucks to be you. Your problem, not mine.

    • Jarrett

      J. Allard had a similar discussion with Steve Ballmer. Allard was pissed because Microsoft decided to kill the Courier project that Allard headed, Ballmer’s response:

“Sucks to be you, your problem not mine.”

I have a HD2 on my desk right now and its going back.

Lots of freezes, and well, its nearly impossible to get the battery cover off to pull the battery.

    • G4tro

Guys if you are having problems with the HD2 freezing turn off sense ui and all you’re problems will be solved and if you do not like the way it looks without sense install the spb mobile shell (youtube it) and trust me u will love it theres nothing faster outthere without that sense ui…

    • TIG

Get some dam muscles man – the cover is not very hard to take off. Maybe find a 12 year old girl stronger than you to help out?

  • mi_canuck

i’m glad I ditched T-Mo… I tried to like them… used them for 5 months… great service, great CS… but just poor OS/update management, as well as terribly slow data speeds in my area… despite the awesome non-contract pricing, I had to say goodbye to them…. Sprint pricing almost as good, but for me, consistently fast data speeds…

  • GentillyWoods

I bought the HD2 day one and returned on day 4. Love HTC Sense, but still a WinMo phone at the end of the day. Not an Android fan boy, but really wanted to good WinMo experience on great hardware. Thought about holding out for the WM7 phones, but went back to Android via a Nexus One. WOW is all I can say!! See ya Microsoft, I’m rocking FROYO… :-)

  • knarf

I’ve had the HD2 from day one and still have it. And love it. My phone have never frozen. There’s so much to this phone it’s great. I’ve used the Blockbuster to download movies, I’ve set up multiple email accounts, the web is fast and I use both Opera and IE. I updated to Opera 10, but I prefer the previous version better.

I have to agree with “work for me”. I think most people cant handle WinMo it’s too much for them. Why can’t they just admit that instead of trying to run down the program. The Iphone is outthere for those who want that type of phone.

  • Hooney Heoh

    “slower then bengie molina.”
screw you guys, i’m nursing a severe case of strep throat, and that made me laugh out loud and then double over in sharp pain.

  • bigsmooth66

Love the fact that BGR reports about the bug problem but neglects to report the expansion of HSDPA+ today. Great job on unbiased reporting.

  • Nando

I had this phone for a week or so . The actual phone is amazing but the OS is bad in my opinion. Crashed on me a few times while browsing on opera. I returned the phone winmo 6.5 kills it.

    • TIG

I’m glad you returned it if you think winmo is the cause of the HD2 problems. Winmo is very stable and mature platform – the problem is SENSE. Sense is a horribly programmed pile of crap.

      • crystal

yea sense was bad i was going to return mine till a friend told me to take off sense.. now my only issue is the text lag

  • NuShrike

Hopefully they’ll ungank that touch-screen response nerfing that really screwed with Opera Mobile 10 touch-scrolling. Even with some registry tweaking, I’m actually still hating the new ROM’s scrolling responsiveness.

  • crystal

i just tryed to download the upgrade and it wont start.. saying currupted.. will they come out with another one im seeing it was pulled off. im tired of my texting lag. loads real slow before i starting writing to a reply.. besides that its all good….. ps where can i get skins for my wm media player on my phone

  • NYshortie

I hate my phone. I haven’t been able to get onto the internet in a week. It freezes often. CS told me to do a download of the upgrade, and now I find out that you can no longer do it. A store rep told me to do a restore on my phone, but what’s the point if I still can’t get my email and get onto the internet. I should have gotten an iphone. pissed and smh.

  • damond

This is the first expensive phone I’ve ever bought. It freezes! I spent an hour getting the new download and it still freezes! They use the Transformers video to sell this thing but the internet is no way as clear.
