Amazon brings Kindle to Android

Amazon is turning up the heat in the e-book market by porting their popular Kindle for iPhone and BlackBerry application to Android. The Android app will resemble its iPhone counterpart with the ability to read, preview, and purchase books from Amazon’s Kindle bookstore, navigate with the flick of a finger, and sync reading progress across all supported platforms. The Android app also looks to be compatible with all the popular Android handsets including the DROID, Nexus One, and the HTC Incredible. It is expected to debut in the Android Market soon and you can sign up at Amazon to be the first to know when it lands.

Go to http://www.ereader.com for a Nook compatible ereader for Android. ereader.com is owned by Barnes & Noble. For some stupid reason, the ereader app isn’t in the android market!

First off you can that just about any program out there – someone has probably created it before. Second, it is Amazon that is creating the program, not Google. Third, if it is a good idea of course you would copy it (as long as it is not patented)

I hope the same apps for iPhone come out for android. Especially the games. It would be sweet to play words with friends with a friend that has android, or play nova against android users. Unfortunatly the iPhone games are to big for androids restricted app memory, so hopefully 2.2 fixes that and we can get some Cross platform love.

Now let’s get android on the kindle, and put kindle for android on our Android Kindle

  • noname

Will this work in the UK?

Very cool! It is about time. Though, I don’t see me using it very often. I did try Kindle on my iPod Touch. I feel it is too small to be an eReader. There will one day be an Android Tablet though and I am sure that it is with this in mind that they are putting Kindle on Android.

    I love the options!! :)
