New 27 inch LED Cinema display and dodeca-core Mac Pro coming in June?

Apple may be bringing two heavy hitters to the market early this summer according to some rumors fresh from the pages of AppleInsider. First up is a potentially gorgeous 27 inch, 2560 by 1440 resolution LED-backlit Cinema display which will be a handsome upgrade from the current 24 inch model. The 27-incher has reportedly been gracing the halls of Apple for some time now, waiting for market prices to drop to an affordable level for launch. For those with a cash flow that seemingly has no end, there will also reportedly be a new Mac Pro on tap for June which will feature not one, but two Xenon 5600 hexacore chips from Intel. This dodeca-core monster machine will be accompanied by a single chip Mac Pro model which is expected to launch in 2.66GHz, 2.8GHz, 2.93GHz, and 3.33GHz  configurations. Those rumored Core i7-980X Mac Pros are not off the table but that configuration is highly unlikely given the recent release of the Xenon 5600 processor line and the compatibility these processors offer with the current generation of Mac hardware.

Okay, I understand the 27″ LED Display by June but The Mac Pro is already over a year old. Rumors and Rumors keep saying next week and the following. Eventually someone will be right I hope its only a matter of time with the amount of rumors people keep spreading. I’ve been waiting for a Refreshed 2010 Mac Pro.

so who is selling the hex core Xeon 5600 workstations today? Except for maybe IBM, nobody. HP is shipping Xeon 5600 servers on the 29th. Not sure about Dell.

I think God just jizzed in his pants.

    • RT

apple patented jizz, will sue God for use.

If the mac pro does come out with these specs. I would be amazed. That would be a wicked machine. My uncles like to rip on my macs due to there lack of performance in macs hardware. I think where starting to see apple pay a lot more attention to high end hardware that handles CAD and video editing like a beast. As a mac should.

    • eh?

While the Mac Pros are nice and all….they are just waaaay too expensive. Spectacular for a workstation, but…not so much for a normal desktop.

I just want a nice, expandable, upgradable, middle…um…end, Mac mid-tower. Something more powerful than an iMac but less powerful than a Mac Pro.

I would like to stretch my desktop as far as I can before replacing it, unlike the iMacs.

AutoCAD is a windows only product and I have yet to find a solution for Mac that is even close; after two years of hunting I found one that was close… replacing it with a PC. And with specs like these, the new Mac Pro will cost as much as a gently used Mercedes. As a mac should….

Apple’s pro hardware rarely disappoints and with all of this talk about portable hardware sometimes real iron and HP are just what the doc ordered!

    STFU,

Perhaps you should follow the suggestion embodied in your screen name and get off BGR since you have nothing to offer to the discussion…

Xenon processors, eh? I don’t believe Intel makes a Xenon anything.

    • Steve

Heh, maybe they are very, very bright?

For those that don’t get it, Intel makes Xeon chips. Xenon is a type of light.

      • Steve

Or even more specifically, Xenon is a gas commonly used in car headlights.

      • eh?

        And flash bulbs!

    Here’s the $10000 question:

    System 1:

12 core Mac, likely only supporting a single mid to high end video card, and DDR3-1333 memory

    System 2:

The same chips on an EVGA Classified SR2 with 4 high end video cards in SLI, and DDR3-2000 memory

We all know which one is going to be faster, but the real question is will you be able to add SSDs and watercooling for System 2 before you reach the price of System 1?

Who cares if it’s running Windows vs OS X? I’ll take a slightly slower Mac Pro over anything Dell, HP or anyone else makes, becaues the OS is what makes me productive. Not the hardware it runs on. YMMV.

    • ToeCutter

Blah, blah, blah, Macs cost more than PCs, everyone gets it.

The big mystery seems to be why only those who don’t like Macs seem to be the only ones complaining about their cost?

(As I try to mash this out on my brother in-law’s Dell Mini 9, complete with crap keyboard w/o backlight, as he gloats about how little he paid for it? :-/ )

wonder how this compares to the 27″ monitor Dell just released. It’s probably pretty close, but will cost 2x a much.

  • Matthew

I would like to have this dodeca-core mac pro but with windows 7 on it…… I just like they way those mac pros are built….the case design inside and out always gets me…..I just with you could find a decent pc case to compete with the mac pro.

    • Big papa

you can use windows 7 on it, ever herd of boot camp???? idiot
